Wow that is major suck. :(
What was compression when you bought it this summer? Any idea what caused this? I cant imagine a shitty tune causing scored cylinder walls. Very odd.

If you look closely at the pic of the piston, you can see that it's damaged along the left hand bottom corner of the frame.

Compression was good when I bought it, ~140 across the board. Some say the rings are gapped too tightly from the factory. Maybe it was detonation. Maybe it was too much awesome.
My goal is to get the head off and verify the boroscope findings this week, then pull everything else this coming weekend (after I recover from Mark's party--friday night). So if you're bored next saturday or sunday and want to get dirty, feel free to stop by. Beer provided after you smash your first fingernail or knuckle :D

For when I blow my next motor up, lol. Next time I am doing it myself...no money for another one, lol.
But really, I will come be moral support and do what I can. I'd like to help with getting the head off to, text me. I need to figure out that stuff or at least see what its like.

Did you by chance wash down the cyl walls with too much fuel?

perhaps the previous owner did, I'm not sure. From the day I got it it ran anywhere from 11-12:1 afr, I logged it regularly.

Time to get rollin. Dinner, drinks, and pool party with the in-laws tonight so I only got about an hour in on it. Intake, UICP, cooling plate (?), coils rewired back to stock (and tested), drained coolant and got most of the wiring harness removed on the top/side of the motor/trans; just enough to get the head off.

I was considering buying a prebuilt block as Mike@AwdMotorsport claims they have them in-stock and ready to go (built by buschur) but of course that was a lie (dispite the fact that he bumped the thread THIS MORNING)--all they have is a $6000 sleeved block by darton. Overkill to say the least :P

Sigh, looks like this is getting built locally. I have faith in lots of locals and shops so this is probably best; I was just looking for a quicker fix.

Got a whole hour and a half in on it tonight, dinner with in-laws again, sigh. Spending all night with them again tomorrow I think but still on schedule to get the head off Thursday.
Did the knuckle-busting work tonight; fuel rail/lines, intake manifold, passenger motor mount, acc belt and all the pulleys, except for the damn crank pulley; my impact doesn't seem to be strong enough to break it loose :( That's gonna put a huge damper on things!

Talking to lots of vendors to try and get a grasp on what to do for the engine (re)build. AMS could do it quick but I-beam rods are on backorder. Blocks are on national backorder from Mitsubishi. Unconfirmed, but GSC S2 cams are on backorder too. Valvesprings not ready to ship till last week in November. FML.
I took insurance off the car today, it's gonna be down for at least a month at this rate :( In the back of my mind I was soooorta hoping I could have bought a shortblock outright from a national engine builder and have this thing back on the road next week, but that dream died today. Sigh.
