I just found out I am getting a decent sized "relocation" check from my work for moving to fargo. I will be doing quite a few small items around my house to clean it up to get ready to list it. I don't think it will be anything major but if I do I will post something up.

Sad that I just built a great new deck and won't get to really use it :(

Oh, if anyone is looking for a house in blaine or knows anyone that would be interested please let me know. I will toss someone a finder fee if they buy :)

If a check (cash) is all you are getting keep track of the spend use or save some for the tax hit.

It's not all, that and salary increase and quarterly bonus. But yes, going to keep track of it all.

This puts me up a tax bracket for sure sadly so the man will take a bunch more. It's all going to savings though, no car mod money here.

I work in Relo so if you have any questions on anything let me know. The key is spending as much as possible in excludeable (box 12) items.

Do you mind sharing what it cost for the initial structure, concrete pour, etc? I have been considering the same thing in the near future and I literally have no clue what that sort of thing costs.

The cost for the basic structure sized 40x60x14' (14' high ceiling) with 2 windows, 1 10x10' overhead door, and 1 service door was $22k

2400 sqft of 4" concrete reinforced with rebar was about $10k

Site excavation and driveway was about $3k.

Before you start anything make sure to check the regulations for your zoning. My original zoning was Rural Residential. That would have only allowed my building to be ~1400 sq ft, also required the colors to match the house, as well as roof overhang with soffits and fascia that would have added $3-4k to initial building price.

Alright, I have been making some huge progress on the basement since we are putting the house up for sale shortly because I am moving to Florida. Here is a little before and after, still a ways to go but getting there! Old pics first, obviously! This was just after putting up all the walls.

I have done everything myself (and my dad) except for the electrical, drywall and putting the floors down. Updates of the area that is nearly 100% done!
