No, this doesn't replace the stock one. This is just a knock indicator light for monitoring purposes. Your options are to wire it into the stock unit or add a secondary for it. Since they are only $50-80 I don't see a reason not to add a second one.
The X's are known for having questionable fuel pump relays and now that I'm upgrading to a double-pump, that's just more things to fail. Beefing up my monitoring capability seemed prudent.

He has commented that the knock detection on the X sucks but I don't know if that's due to the stock sensor's quality or its placement.

That's the big advantage that the Cusco has. The price is higher than the competition but no modifications to carpeting or trunk plastic is required.
