They say it is for heat, weight, and to prevent warping due to how the ring 'floats' against the aluminum hub. The RB website is a lot more educational than Girodisc.

Not planning to upgrade the calipers--this is just rotors, pads, and stainless lines. The "big brake" kits start at $3k. That'd make sense if you were actually a racer but this is just for playing at the tracks.
