I FUCKING HATE thieves. I totally know how it goes as my old house was broken into last year, still fresh on my mind. Ya feel personally violated. My car was left alone for the most part, but my bedroom, was TORN apart..EVERYTHING.

Wow, how did they get in the garage? Lifting the door is kinda impossible unless they went into the house somehow. Or was the garage open?
Strange that they stole the dsmlink cable... that points me to the fact that its someone on here.

For some reason I thought with DSMLink V2 the cable and board/chip in the ECU were married to keep people from counterfeiting it like people did with DSMLink V1. I am not sure if that is correct though.

My understanding is that is correct for 2G's. On a 2G V2 setup, the cable is your proof of purchase. If the cable gets stolen, then you're more then likely going to end up buying Link all over again.
On a 1G however, the board in your ECU is your proof of purchase, and the cable is fairly simple.
I got an email back from the Tom at ECMLink. He is saying a replacement cable isn't a problem, just a matter of when it'll arrive.
Anyone have one I can borrow for the weekend?

First of all, I feel for you Brandon, that sucks!
What do the cops think?
From your description of what happened, I wouldn't be so sure its a DSMer. We have had our mail and one of our cars broken into and the cops say its usually meth addicts that steal stuff around here. They are looking for anything they can grab quickly and steal stuff like laptops, them grabbing the link-cable could be them simply thinking its a power cord or something necessary for the computer to function. Also the fact that they took the time to grab change makes me think common thief as opposed to your car being specifically targeted. Hopefully you'll find out more when you get home and have a chance to look around some more.
When they broke into my wife's car they grabbed everything that wasn't bolted down, camera, cd's, change, water bottles, everything. Once they left they started to toss whatever they didn't want out the window of their car. I found all of her non-country cds scattered over the next couple blocks from our house the next morning. Maybe your dsmlink cable is laying on the road nearby, fat chance but worth a look around the neighborhood.
The cops who came to my house told me they will grab everything they can and then start tossing anything they don't want or can't sell quickly somewhere near by.
I have a link cable but its for V2 and for my 2g so it probably won't work but you are welcome to use it if you need it.
God I hate thieves!

I reported it to my Association. Sounds like I'm not alone. 1 other burglary report was made as well.
I agree it's starting to look less like I was specifically targeted. But still, crappy situation.
But I'm trying to look on the positive side. Considering what they took, and what they COULD have taken, in a way you could say I lucked out because it could have been a lot worse.

Tom over at ECM Tuning told me a cable is no issue. I ended up buying the new USB cable. Hopefully it comes soon.
But if anyone has one I can borrow for the weekend, please let me know!!
That does suck man, sorry to hear. Glad to hear there wasn't any damage to the car though, it could have been a lot worse!
