WTF magnus is testing their new design showing it makes power over stock.

DB tested their old design showing it lost torque down low.

What are we proving here? The old design was teh ghey. New one seems to work. End of story.

Why was the old design teh ghey? Because Buschur found out it makes less HP than a stock one at low RPM's? That should be a given with aftermarket intakes.

If I had to take a guess, I would say that it could be one of two things or possible a combination.. 1) usually you want the volume of your plenum/surgetank to be 2-2.5x the displacement of your motor.... not sure what the total volume is on the one in question is.... and 2) the flairs that are in the updated version are the way to go as sharp edges can cause shearing of the airstream at high velocity and wreck the quality of the air entering the runners....

Disclaimer: Again just speculation no actual data or testing has been done to prove/disprove the above

Re: Buschnuts calls out Magnus

FYI, you don't want that large of a volume on a forced induction engine. .8-1.2 is where almost all of them are, with most being around 2.0l for a DSM (they get a bit small on a 2.4l). The Magnus is probably the smallest and is well under 2.0l.

That's the thing. The other intakes they tested did not loose 40whp down low, just a little bit of spool.

Check this thread for the straight results/facts:
http://buschurforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20866

The hypertune came out roughly on top; almost zero loss in spool or low-end torque, and lots of power gains up top. Still, a ported stocker w/ 65mm TB will bump 10-15whp across the entire powerband, and $375 vs $2200 is tough to swollow for an extra 10-15whp up top.

I understand a radiused entry should allow a smoother flow for air entering the runners, but I have yet to see this proven on our Forced Induction platforms. Matter of fact I believe Al from dynoflash did a back to back test on his evo and found that it made no difference during his test. Either way, the one I'm building for my car will use a smooth radiused entry machined into the flange

Scheides, I will read that thread. It will take awhile though with the awesom Spanish internet
