Re: Evo X upgrades

The factory relay still controls the main pump on the blaqops kit. Blaqop's provides another relay for the secondary pump. I swapped my relay last week

I do have the upgraded (green) relay already. The new setup will run the first pump off that relay and the second pump off of another relay/controller.

It was postponed until tonight. I'm confident that it won't be fun nor look pretty...I just hope I have everything that I need to make it functional.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Shawn (simulatedwood) is the man tonight! He allowed me to run over to his parent's place since they have a great heated garage with a lift.

We swapped out the fuel rail, underhood lines and filter in pretty good time. The Boomba rail has a fitting for a fuel pressure gauge and that came in super-handy as the night wore on.

There were a couple surprises with the BlaqOPs install. One was that you have to cut off the stock hoses from the hard lines under the car and add new ones. No big deal but it would have been handy if they were included or the procedure actually explained in the instructions. The second probably represented a few hours of troubleshooting--BlaqOPs reversed polarity when they wired my pumps. Took a little time to figure that one out since it's the last thing we had expected.

I took one photo of the sender transferred over to the Full Blown hanger. I'll take more pics tomorrow...at a civilized hour. lol

Re: Evo X upgrades

He did get it all in. The fuel pump is a work of art, but would have been nice if it was wired right. With with a little troubleshooting, it is all sorted out, and he is good to go.

It wasn't bad with a lift. I imagine you just jacked it up...not quite as pleasant.

Did a new line come with your kit or did you buy some hose? Did you replace both pressure and return lines?

--
When I got home I had some rod bearings waiting for me. That means I can give Shane a call and ask when I can drop off the car.

Yea, that's why i had to go buy jackstands and a jack In the instructions he said you can do that from above, yea right.

It came with hose, i just replaced the pressure side, not return side.

Ok, cool. Now that I think of it, the Full Blown kit did come with one piece of 30r9 but it looked like it was only a foot long. I'll have to check if that is long enough for one of the two connections. It might be...it's a short run.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Grabbed a couple 5/16ths hoses from O'Reilly's to replace the temporary lines that Shawn put in for me (3/8ths, it appears).

BlaqOPs told me that shrink-wrap is a no-no with E85 so I'll have to take a look to see if there is enough wire to re-do it with butt connectors.

I called Full Blown to ask them what the heck I do with the suction line at the bottom of the gas tank. There isn't really anything to connect it to on the FB hanger. I think there should be a fitting at the bottom of the cup so that the bottom of the pumps (which have socks on them) can 'suck' through that line from the other side of the tank.

At least that's what seems logical to me. Not that I know anything about fuel systems. lol.

Facepalm ! doah ! did not even think about it, when doing the wiring. There should be plenty of wire to redo it with butt connectors.

Sigh

My helmet came today. These are SO much better and cheaper than what we had 10 years ago (when I was riding bike). $230 for carbon fiber? Sweet!

Re: Evo X upgrades

Here are some more details about the BlaqOPs double-pump install.

We grabbed the + feed from the main feed from the engine compartment to the fuse box (looks like an 8 gauge cable) and tapped into ignition on using one of those ATO add-a-circuits at fuse 13, which is for the cigarette lighter. These two wires run in plastic wire wrap from the fuse box to the glove box (if you look behind the radio from the glovebox you'll see a passage-way. I used an antenna that happened to be lying around to feed the wire across).

The ground for the BlaqBox was one of the brackets for the Sirius radio behind the glovebox.

The BlaqBox (boost progressive controller) is Velcroed to the Sirius receiver behind the glovebox.

Behind the passenger side front strut tower there is a plastic grommet that can be punched out to run wires through to behind the glovebox. I punched it out with a screwdriver and then ran a pick through the padding on the other side. Then from the inside I used a utility blade to cut a large enough hole in the padding to run the vacuum tubing through that hole. In an ideal world you'd use a grommet to protect this from chafing but I didn't.

I ran the + wire for the secondary pump under the passenger-side door sills (they just pull off, super easy) to the fuel hanger.

One of the more annoying parts of this install is going underneath the car and cutting the stock fuel hoses from the hard lines. We replaced both pressure and return lines with 30r9 5/16th hose.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Here's a pic of the Boomba fuel rail that we put in. I have yet to find a perfect fuel rail for the X. They are all annoying in some way. The AMS uses a -6an line instead of the stock quick disconnects. This Boomba rail doesn't have brackets for handling the return line (hence the zip ties).

Re: Evo X upgrades

Went to Shawn's place again this afternoon. Got all of the 30r7 lines replaced with 30r9, we pulled the hanger and replaced the shrink wrap with butt connectors, Shawn installed the stereo controls on my steering wheel, and we fixed the sagging rubber piece on my front lip.

I'm very pleased about getting so much done with the car this week. Fantastic!

Re: Evo X upgrades

I handed the keys and a bunch of parts over to Shane @DB. Since I'm doing pistons there will be a lot of oil changes involved. lol. I'm not sure exactly when it'll see the dyno since I may have to put a few miles on the motor first.

You're car is in good hands, it'll be even better than before when you get it back.
