I'm joining the Air Force and am going to be working on Jet Engines in an Air Conditioned hangar more than likely. Hardly very much of a life risk. But yes, a good majority of our forces are in dangerous places/conditions.

My Dad did the same job based out of Little Rock during Vietnam. I understand the appeal since I enlisted in the Corp, myself (rejected due to asthma). Once you're in you don't have a lot of choice about where you are stationed...the government owns you. I think it's safer to assume that your life actually is on the line because saying 'no' is basically not an option once you are in. Predicting the future is impossible...who knows what war we will be in 2-3 years from now.

That's what I thought to joining the Air Wing. Then I ended up living in Yuma for 2.5 years, and spending time in the middle east with minimal A/C, wearing full cammies every day and helmet, and carrying all your chemical gear in a back pack every where you go,and scud missile sirens going off every day. You really never know what could happen. You're going into the military, so don't expect that you won't ever be put in a dangerous situation. I bet the guys at Pearl Harbor thought they had it made.

I would actually "enjoy" that I think. It is an experience not many people get to say they have had. I almost hope I have to go somewhere dangerous at some point. They don't train you for no reason!

I originally wanted to do one of the most dangerous jobs in the military. Whatever happens, happens, and I am looking forward to it!

Oh, and to bring this back on topic........

Re: Swifty

Swifty seems alright to me from the few times I've met him. I think most of the guff he got on here was from talking up his car when it never even ran.

And as far as Swifty having a girl now, how can you afford a girlfriend with no job?

You must share your secret
