EVO no longer being imported to the US??
Just saw this in the middle of a used car add. From a dealer here in town.
"2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2.0L TURBO 4CYL AWD SEDAN Mitsubishi has announced that they have stopped importing the EVOLUTION to the USA! This is your chance to get what's sure to be a collectors item at a fair price."
Havent heard anything about Mitsu doing this and I know that the 9's were already arriving. Just curious if anyone has heard anything about this rumor or not.

Re: EVO no longer being imported to the US??
That is nonsense, they just confirmed the EVO X will be released in early 2007 as an '07 model with 300hp and a few more handling electronics. Its pretty badass looking, but from what they are saying it won't be a true manual, it'll be a paddle shifter clutchless thing.

Re: EVO no longer being imported to the US??
And this:
Evo X that power will be provided by an all-new unit as the ageing 4G 63 block is finally retired, having provided motivation for quick Lancers since the Evo I of 1992.
Just wondering if the info hasnt hit the streets yet about no more EVO. This is the only thing I have found on line about it so far and it seems that the info has come from the same dealership here in the cities.

Re: EVO no longer being imported to the US??
I have heard nothing about the X getting a different engine, I know that it will still be a 2.0L 4-cylinder so I can't imagine why Mitsu would use anything besides the 4G63 since its proven itself time and time again. Most dealerships seem to know nothing more than the general public when it comes to a lot of issues regarding future models.

Probably a nice open deck all aluminum motor that can't handle any power.

If its not a 4G63, you can bet we'll be dissapointed.
And bigger displacement mivec makes me worry that it wont even be turbo.

Re: EVO no longer being imported to the US??
i hope it has 8 million different electronic driver aids, fifteen pumps all over the chassis for various things, and a minimum of 8 more solenoids in the engine compartment.
i also hope they will offer an RS, with none of that crap.

Isnt the mivec in the new eclispes?(which i think are ugly as hell and they made it a V6, gay) and why would they switch from the 4G63? I hope they dont.

Re: EVO no longer being imported to the US??
The engine is not a 4g63, but is a 2.0 4 cylinder MIVEC. I have not heard if it was an aluminum block or not though. Hopefully they go bigger bore and shorter stroke. More top end powa!

Yeah lightweight is never a good thing :/ More of the EVO body will be aluminum for the X than either the VIII or IX.

Re: EVO no longer being imported to the US??
i hope they do a good job of implementing the extensive alum use; as it has a pretty poor fatigue life compared with traditional steels.
An example would be an aluminum bodied audi losing 50% of its structural rigidity after 5 years of normal driving, due soley to stress cycles and not designing around it. (after all, if the car gets creaky down the road you'll probably want a new one!)
bottom line, i hope they continue designing with sound engineering principles in mind. so far they've been pretty decent

Yeah, because the LS7 engine is a piece of crap
Aluminum is good if it is used properly. Like Floppy said, it isn't always used properly!
