Re: Ported/Aftermarket TB discussion

The funny thing is when you see a turbo Mustang with 2.5" intercooler piping making 800-1000whp and you wonder how that is even possible.

Yea but they are probably running ~12 psi boost right?

So not flowing near as much compressed air as a 4g63?

Edit - and somehow I figure boost isn't a clear indication of how much air a car is flowing, so basically I'm assuming I'm wrong already...

Re: Ported/Aftermarket TB discussion

It takes pretty much the same amount of air to make 1000whp regardless of the motor, some engines are more efficient than others, but a 4G63 making 1000whp at 50psi is about the same amount of air as a 7 liter making 1000whp at 14psi. It's going to be around 100lb/min of air regardless of the boost level that it happens at.

'flow' defines an amount of air, not just volume, not just pressure, but both (and temperature). Volume pretty much defines power output. More I'm seeing that 2.5" is not much of a restriction at 500whp.

Makes sense, I love your post.

Re: Ported/Aftermarket TB discussion

Saw this in a TB/Ported intake mani thread on EvoM...basically sums up the whole 2.5" vs. 3" thing I think.

Not saying to use a BR ported mani, but basically ported stock mani/TB ftw.

I bought my BR Ported IM for $75 and BR 64mm TB for ~$300 in October of 2008 and the price has since risen to $150 for the IM and stayed at $300 for the TB. I know the price is not that much more, but something about a basic $75 port job like mil.spec is selling now just makes me smile.

Mike and Shane (dunno if you wanna be grouped together but too bad!) are really right and overall for most people a nice basic ported IM and TB combo are enough for most people.

I am still intrigued by the boomba b/c its bigger and more shiny but their lack of response when I ask for info is extremely bothersome. A stock TB is really more universal and simple and probably enough. Next we should talk about intake manifolds

Re: Ported/Aftermarket TB discussion

Once I pick up a new intake manifold, I should see if any testing can go down between the stocker, milspec, and boomba. Would be a fun one.

Re: Ported/Aftermarket TB discussion

Buschur does nothing more than a simple gasket-match, but as you saw in my pictures Mil.Spec touches the majority of the runner and the entire plenum.

Re: Ported/Aftermarket TB discussion

My main complaint with some of the bored stockers has been stickyness of the throttle plate.

I think that may only be a Buschur issue due to their plate material. I know my Mil.Spec never felt anything different than stock.

Yea my buschur one did that at first but just when it got annoying enough to complain to them about it it wore itself in and the stickyness went away. IDK if it was so much a plate material so much as it was a tollerance thing. The buschur plate was very tight around the edges and the mil.spec one was a little more loose.
