Ported/Aftermarket TB discussion

Oh the X is 58mm stock? Boo nelly! Even worse than I thought. Good info.

Boomba ftw. :)

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

Without doing the boomba modified intake mani or another 75mm opening one I don't see the benefit of the boomba one. Also the IC pipes would have to be 3" I would think to warrant those. They look awesome, but just seem like overkill.

People on 8/9's are making well into the 800whp area on ported stockers to my knowledge.

Murlo is right, to make the 75mm Boomba worth anything you'd need a 3" LICP and a 75mm TB inlet, otherwise you might as well keep things cheap/simple and go with a ported stocker.

Boomba has been offering 64mm for a long time...you guys chose to talk about the 75mm. I've heard you guys talking about Milspec lately but they are doing the same thing.

The 75mm doesn't require downtime, which seemed desirable at the time. I couldn't care less now.

very true...I assumed you meant the 75mm since that is what you bought.

My bad.

But Boomba charges a lot more and milspec has been around longer I believe and has had great results with tons of evo 8/9 stuff. Mil Spec is a more reputable shop with a lower price...whats not to love about that.

Just go buy a stock 60mm 1G TB for $30 and be done.

Can't...Drive by wire sadly :(

But good advice, lol.

Nothing, other than time travel. I get bored with people asking me why I have MX1s or a Full Race manifold. Umm, few shops were selling anything.

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

People have made over 800whp on the stock unported 1G 60mm DSM throttle body and Honda guys do it too with similar sized stock Honda throttle bodies. I have only done any back to back throttle body testing on NA cars and it usually does nothing on them except hurt mid range power. Kind of a hard to guess part as to what size you need and when one becomes a power restriction. Around 58-62mm usually matches well with 2.5" intercooler piping. I have been impressed with the Boomba stuff as far as idle control actually working. I ran the big, cheap and durable Q45 Tb on my 2G. It's progressive throttle body, so it wasn't just on and off like most big Mustang throttle bodies, but it lacks much provision for idle control.

Oh I know, trust me....there are many things I'd change if I built the car right now...I am not giving ya crap...just saying why we are happy about the milspec stuff.

When I helped Diiirk get the 5-bar working on the stock ecu, they made 900whp (dynojet) on a ported stock IM/TB combo:

Make no mistake, for the price this is a GREAT mod.

On the X only, or have you done any on an 8/9 or dsm? I know the idle control is way better on teh X since the ecu can blip the throttle plate to keep the engine alive. Good to hear.

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

I have had them on Evo 8/9s and SRT-4s, but I don't remember if any of them were stock ECU cars. I thought I did a stock ECU big turbo speed density Evo 8 with the Boomba last year.

Have you heard of any longevity issues with them? I know I heard one report of a failure but that's about it.

It certainly is a tough decision, but evo8/9/X there's kinda a few combos to go with (and I cannot decide what I want!)

Option1: Ported stock manifold, ported stock TB
Option2: Ported stock manifold, modified to 3" inlet, boomba 75mmTB, fancy 3" LICP, 3" FMIC outlet
Option3: aftermarket intake manifold w/ stock or boomba TB.

Man, we have the makings of a real test here :)

Moved some stuff from deadmausX thread here, so we can conquer all TB-related questions/comments/ideas/etc.
