No one's buying highly modded cars anymore either, so you have to stick with what you have for the time being.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I noticed on Saturday you seem to have a bit of a studder in the middle of your RPM range. I know you were talking about having a problem that you couldn't rev up any higher, but any ideas what's causing the studder? I also noticed that you're getting alot of backfiring on decel. Maybe need to take a little fuel out when the throttle is closed? It pops more than my bike does. haha

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
ya, I think I need a revisit to shane. Seems that usually you go lean when decel, or more-so lean under part throttle, but I think he made it more on the rich side, for smoother throttle transitions with these injectors?

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
1600s and an AEM EMS don't mix. The AEM is very bad at running those junk ass injectors made for CNG. You can't fix mechanical and electrical problems with tuning.
Put a factory ECU on the car, some good injectors, and a factory ignition system on it and have a chance at a decent running car. If you really want to run 1600s, then either run them as secondary injectors on a second rail or run a factory ECU. I have had some luck with the DW 1600s, but the usual Ford/Bosch/PTE/FIC ones were not orginally designed for normal fuels and they do not respond in a linear fashion(sometimes more IPW gives less fuel).

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
oh yea, I'm not complaining about the tune at all shane, know that. It works, and feels safe. And, for part throttle inputs, and the shit I have on the car, like that q45, once she warms up, she drives just fine. No stalling when I come to a stop, the cams lobbing a way, and I enjoy the looks I get. I'm more-so trying to figure this bunk-ass revving issue. ARG!

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
yea, we will see if it's the valve springs or not. I just cannot believe that they would be THAT fricken' accurate, as to "failing/floating" at EXACTLY the same rpms!

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I would think if it's a valve spring that's not operating up to what it needs to be, then it wouldn't be soo consistant and reliably failing EVERY time!

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
OK, here's a question: Why exactly do you need to rev to like 9,500 RPMs anyways? You're already reving to 8k, is the extra revving going to make that much of a difference?

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
you seen the dynograph..lag. I need something called POWERBAND. So, yea extra revs would be nice. The fatter the powerband, the happier I'd be. I just dont care to sacrifce power either. Infact, I wish to make more..

You should try using what you have first, maybe work on the driver mod too

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Well, been SOME time since I've updated this. So, as the car currently sits:
Head is torn off, to make sure no valves are slightly bent, and see if that is any contribution to the revving issue i've been having. Head is up at Rau's place, and It's getting worked over while it's off. 1mm SS valves, his beehive spring/retainers, seats, seals, etc. Also getting soda blasted, so the head will look brand new once it's done.
As for the rest of the car, I've made a bypass plug for the MSD, and I have wires, so I'm just looking for a stock coil pack, and then I'll test all the ignition components on the dyno come spring.
Steve Hill's old FMIC will replace the one I had on the car before, as his is thicker, and will help keep my intake temps down, farther then before.
Turbo was sold to Mark a while ago, and in it's place will be a 6765 billet turbo, in T4, .68 housing. I'll polish the comp cover, as before, and It will be the H-cover instead of the S.
Just because everyone likes art:
As far as the rest of the car, I am going to get a new fuel filter. It seems the filter I had on the car was too small for my setup. Fuel pressure would increase, but then flatten out towards the top, and the car would go lean. Shane fixed that for the summer by adding fuel up there, but after doing research, I've found that my twin fuel pumps outflow the rating for the filter I have on the car. So, I am looking to get an aeromotive filter, much like what Blageo has on his car:
I still need to paint it, paint the cage, get carpeting material from sub boxes (dunno where to find this) and do the car, and work on the interior a bit.
Hopefully, the revving issue will be fixed, and the car will be fun again this year. I should also FINALLY get out to the track, since I busted my ass to get the car ready, only for the last event to be rained out. Here's to hoping for a good 2010..
-A. Swift

I'm excited to see what this set up has in store, and to maybe see it at the track this year. Oh and billet hawtness...nice haha.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
So does Brent do his own headwork then or who is doing that? What brand springs/retainers does he use that you are getting from him?
Also, lmk when you get the old FMIC off, This is my last week of winter break, maybe I'll head down to your place and grab that from ya.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Sounds good goodhart. Just let me know, and I'll get to pulling it off. Car's been sitting untouched for a while now.
Brent does assemble his heads, but takes it to a buddy of his for machine work, and soda blasting. Valvetrain is Ferrera. Their version of beehive springs/retainers. Good to rev to 11,500rpms.
