I am also using a 3" sensor. If you are running draw through a 3.5" sensor wouldn't hurt if you have a big turbo but 3" sensor would be more suitable for blow through with your average 2.5" ic piping. Running a 3.5" sensor with 2.5" piping is too much of a transition too quickly IMO and wouldn't help very much.
As for the install are you running blow through or draw through? If your doing draw through you just stuff a 3" filter on the inlet of the maf and the maf should fit right into your intake tube just like the stock mas. If your doing blow through you just need to physically find room for it in your ic pipe (which will obviously vary depending on your current mods and remeber to figure in the length of the couplers) and then cut the pipe and use 2 renforced silicon reducers with t-bolt clamps.
