Re: '03 BBY Evo

Maybe I can get somebody to trade my FP HTA 3082 for a nice evo turbo, bu I'm probably just dreaming.

Thanks again for the kind words guys!

Re: '03 BBY Evo

Yea didn't get up there until 9:30/10 though and I had to work at 8am the next day. Plus had my gf with me and we both wanted to just go home at that point. I did actually think about it though.

On a side note, this thing feels pretty darn slow. Boooo for having a light ass 2g that made more power than this.

Well a simple picture message saying "fargo has one less sweet evo" woulda been sufficient.

Re: '03 BBY Evo

Do any of you guys know any good/cheaper evo exhaust manifolds that are flanged for a dsm turbo? I have that FP HTA 3082 that is just sitting in my garage waiting to be sold. If I can find a cheap option I would love to throw that on there! Looks like Bushur has one that they would sell for $400 and then an o2 housing for $300. Just looking to see if anybody knew of any better options.

Also I was looking at the GSC S2's but those said springs were required. I really just wanted something that preformed a lot better that could be swapped in easily while doing a timing belt job. Do the S2's really need the valve springs? I want to be safe as this is my new daily but do want a little more power out of it. Any reccomendations on cams that wont require the valve springs?

Random new picture I took the other day while board in muderapolis with the summer wheels on it.

Re: '03 BBY Evo

If you want cams that don't require springs look at the Kelford 272's. But remember, springs wear out, and a higher-mileage car may not be able to handle the 7500rpm revs that a younger car could w/ original springs.

I always always recommend the gsc 5039 springs because they are a) cheap($200) and b) a simple drop-in beehive, no major swappage needed and it would be dandy to do right along with your timing belt job. Then just drop in the new cams and you're good to go with a solid 8000rpm redline. I rev'd my stock bottom-end to 8300 a few times w/o issue on these springs. and I guess c) a little bit of insurance if you miss a shift.

Have a link? I guess I've never heard of such a thing since DSM and Evo turbos are backwards from each other?

Re: '03 BBY Evo

That is true and you have a very solid point!

I've only seen people put spring in when the head is off the car. Are the springs something you can do while the head is still on the car? I would like to keep the head on as that is one less headgasket that I would have to buy.

I just keep thinking back my little dsm and how that thing would bounce off 8500 when it would just spin in first with stock everything, but it was a munchgsx motor. I want to be on the safer side with this car. haha

I definitely have my reading to do on evo stuff!

I think it was JMF that also has one but it is a tubular one and is 1k+. I'm a budget and don't want a tubular one for daily driving anyways.

Re: '03 BBY Evo

Ah I see. I'm no expert, but I think you would be hard pressed to find a Evo manifold that is cheaper than that if Buschur can sell that to you for $400.

EDIT:

Looks like a nice piece, although I wouldn't want an open o2 dump on my daily, but that's just me.

Re: '03 BBY Evo

You can do the springs with the head on the car, you can either pump compressed air into they cylinder to keep the valves closed, use the rope method. Trust me, taking the head off is a longer process on the Evo than it is on a DSM, although it always takes longer the first time.

Re: '03 BBY Evo

PS- sell the turbo and do a real bolt-on with a twin-scroll housing. That's what makes them so appealing imho, not just the fact that they bolt on but the spool characteristics blow single-scroll turbos out of the water. FP Red/Black will spool around 3900/4200 on that car and would probably be perfect for what you're after: a little bit more lag, a lot more power up top!

Hmmm, I guess I am used to driving the open down pipe dsm that I didn't think an open dump was loud at all. Now I might have a differen opinion even though I don't really get on it very often any more.

Rope method seems like its pretty easy and fail safe. I would have to take off one of the manifolds which doesn't seem like a big deal. Or would you have to take off both for the rope method to really work and make sure nothing got left behind?

I think I might know what you're talking about. I think we might have something like that in my garage my dad bought. I'll have to look into it!

Hmmmmmm. The other manifold/o2 housing seems like a cheaper option haha. Just kind of looking at my options at the moment. First thing is cams and timing belt. I'm already getting ahead of my self, new cars are exciting!

If you cannot track down the tool you need to remove the valve springs with the head on the car, you're welcome to borrow mine - it works awesome!
