Re: What does it take to run a 10? 500whp@DB, practice, or both? Neither?

Grove creek is awesome, that's where I have done all my passes. You can literally do 50 runs a night if you want to, unlimited runs and there's usually not a whole shit load of cars there. It's also only $35 and they're lax on tech specs (cages, etc).

In one year, with the same mods and such I went from running consistent 8.3's to consisten 7.6-7.7's. I figure via the time slips I've seen, I'll need to run at least a 7.2 with the black to get the 10. I'm going to hit that 1/8th mile goal before I go to the 1/4.

I really want to hit it on the 28th so (if all goes well) I can hit up a 1/4 track in September. (specifically the 11th). We'll see what happens.

I ran consistent 7.22s in the 1/8th and 100-99mph. 11.1 on the 1/4 on those runs but I wasn't shifting to fifth, I opted to bounce off rev limiter at 8500 in 4th before the end of the track. Shifting to 5th the best was 11.3. I suck or am too much of a pussy and need to increase the rev limit to 8800.

Hell yeah, so my estimate of <7.2 should be about correct. Asumming I might have a tiny bit more high end, I might be able to get away with a 7.2X. (and the whole 5 speed thing, haha)

A black will mph better yeah but you should be able to cut 1.7x 60' which is nothing special, should put you in the 6.9s I would think pretty easily. A black isn't really laggy so the 1-2 shift should be easy to make without bogging.

Do you have a tranny that shifts?

Yeah at grove creek I think my best was a 1.7, usually around 1.8. (on all season tires) If I run a 6.9 I'll poop. Everywhere.

The tranny.. thats my one iffy thing. We're putting in a 6-puck since I'm sick of having lock out. So hopefully my tranny will fair better than before, the only one that might be terrible is my shift to 4th (synchro is likely on its way out).

Re: What does it take to run a 10? 500whp@DB, practice, or both? Neither?

Bumping this...

Well obviously I didn't get to run this year and won't until spring but I figured I would share what the general consensus is on the national forums.

Now AGAIN, i realize it will take some time to nail it down and I don't expect to do great the first time out, I just want to make a pass and I will go from there.

From other 1/4 times out of Evo X's, people making 450whp (DJ) have been hitting mid 11's pretty consistently. Basically people said I would have to suck immensely to not hit 10's and are they right? Maybe...with an extra 120whp over them you would think I could shave off another .5 seconds but who knows.

I basically told everyone in my build threads that my goal was 11's and I would be happy...and 10's are the overall goal after going a bunch.

I just find it funny how people on those forums think its so easy and people here think its so hard...the guy who ran 11.5 recently was his first time on his FPred too so now I am wondering is that guy really good, or maybe the X is just easy to drive, who knows.

The discrepancy between national and local is just comical to me I guess.

National boards are full of know-it-alls and idiots. Local boards have them too but I think people are more honest and upfront locally as we somewhat know everyone and won't stand for the BS.

This is exactly what I was talking about...lol, you guys are so dang negative. It's funny that if I even say 10 in a sentence you guys don't bother reading that I said I didn't plan to run that at all, but whatever.

I agree, I was just posting as I thought it was funny how different the boards mentality are.

I will say this, I fully think my car is 10's capable with someone that can drive after reviewing people that have gone 10's already in the X (i say this as I am giving my opinion on 500whp at DB running 10's, i think it is for sure possible)....if Ron came yesterday to Rockfalls and people were actually running i was gonna ask him to drive my car once or twice, but he didn't come and we got rained on, oh well.

As far as I can tell, everyone on EvoXForums is the world's greatest street tuner and race driver...according to them anyway

It would appear that way, wherever i mentioned running 11's people literally thought i was dumb...i thought i was realistic. Honestly my first decent pass I expect to be high 12's maybe 13's if i suck it up.

End of the day, run your own race.

FWIW I'd consider myself mediocre at best and was running pretty solid 12.5's@115 with 414whp dynojet and was able to get it down to 12.3@116. With more practice and technique coaching I think I could ultimately get it down to 12.2 and mayyyyyybe 12.1 if stretching it. Previous trip I was running 13.1@106 with ~310-320whp dynojet so I picked up 1.0sec/10mph with about 100whp.

So even pouring in race gas the car felt quite a bit quicker but I was only up ~35-40whp. I figure my car with 500whp and more practice would get me another .7sec/7mph or maybe .9/9 (mix in the law of diminishing gains?) and that would put me in the 11.5@125mph range. Throw in another 70whp and the math says that yea you're on the cusp of 10's. Go for gold, but again, run your own race.

Did I say something about a 10 in that statement? Relax, there was no negativity or offense intended in what I said. Racing season is coming to a close, and bench racing season is starting, that's all I'm saying! We all do it, or have done it, chiilllll man!!!

^I'd also consider myself medicore at best as well, especially without ever running down a real 1/4 for numbers like you have. I could very well be worse.

I was just saying my opinion on the matter, i think 500whp at DB is 10's capable with great driving. It is my overall goal and I will do what I need to in order to get there.

Shane and myself have been talking nitrous recently for help if I need it
