Re: New CR-Z or Old civic?

Post #50 actually says I am going to follow the advice...

Which goes to say that everything you guys have been saying about me not drinking the water you lead me to is a crock of shit.

Maybe it's not so much me not listening. It is you guys not listening. I am going to look into it. Although I don't even look at it like a lease, I look at it like renting a car for 300 a month. My time is very valuable to me. I would choose to work less but then I go under 40 hours a week and no longer get health/dental/optical insurance.

I need to finish school faster than most that work 40 hours a week. I actually enjoy not having much time(usually) because I never have te feeling of "could I be doing more?". I have and never will have a problem with that.

What I asked of you guys was to give me your opinion, by looking through my situation. I will have a 23k dollar loan if I take that out, plus a down payment, plus having to sell the car after 3 years, plus it might break after those years.

Maybe a ring and house are in the future? 3 or so years...

Flame suit up!!!

Re: New CR-Z or Old civic?

How is trading a vehicle in any harder than turning in a lease? If anything, it's probably easier b/c with a lease they'll search the car over for any signs of damage and charge you for it. If you're trading a vehicle in they just take it as-is.

Re: New CR-Z or Old civic?

You act like you are going to be working on your honda 2 hours a night for the next year? Even if the engine did go out this weekend, you could have it up and running in little to no time and rent a car for that week minimally.

What YOU dont get is that you are wasting money and have very poor excuses as to why you want to rent a car for 300 a month for the next couple years.

You have a project thread going right now that says you want to V8 your miata. Are you sure you want to do that? You seem to have very little time on your hands, and time is Precious!

Re: New CR-Z or Old civic?

I never knew the 4g63 was a V8?

When I get approved for a loan, it won't be near what I want it to be. it will be probably 6-7% instead of the 4-5% I want.

Personally I feel that my time is greater than money. I am in a spot in my life that I don't drive enough to go over the 12k miles a year the lease would ask of. I could always at the end of my term take a loan out, negotiate a price and buy it from them. Not taking out such a big loan and keeping myself from being over extended.

I don't feel as if I am wasting money. Every time you go to the dry cleaners, are you wasting money? How about fast food? are you wasting money? What about renting an apartment? It is more convenient for me to have this car on a lease.

I doubt I would ever trade in a vehicle. Depending on the offer they give me obviously.

You guys think to inside the box with money. Money doesn't have much value to me. My time is extremely important to allocate correctly. I am not saying my current civic is going to break, but their is a higher possibility of it compared to a newer car.

I think for now I am going to keep the civic. If it breaks I will then re-evalute what I want to do. Used cars are out of the question.

This pretty much sums up why you can't see beyond a monthly payment and think about the big picture.

He will when he's into debt beyond belief and nothing in the bank.

Cudvig, is your home furnished by the rent to own store, too?

Saving money and being wise about your spending isn't about convenience. Hopefully you figure that out sooner rather than later.

Get some 1or 2 year old used car or buy a new Hyundia or Kia or something. $300 to rent a Honda is rediculous, it isn't a BMW or Mercedes, it's a Honda. There isn't anything special about Hondas besides being overpriced for what you get.

As far as the terms of the loan go, I would think that you could find a competitive rate considering many financial institutions are looking for loans at this time. I doubt you will get a deal financing at a dealer, but look at some of your local financial institutions and get them to compete against each other. Some have rates around 3% for borrowers with good credit but still have rates 4-5% for people with worse credit.

If you drive only 8k miles a year, and would be interested in the car in the end, you won't get a deal close to where you would be at if you bought it. If you take good care of it, it will also likely be reflected in the price they want from it at the end of the lease.

What is wrong with a used car? Are you one of the people who will never buy a used car because you don't know how it has been treated?

What do you mean about being in debt beyond belief??? It is more "convenient" not to have equity in the stuff he has and rent.

Because he clearly enjoys pissing money away rather than paying off debt he already has, or saving money now to pay cash for stuff in the future.

Re: New CR-Z or Old civic?

On my way to the Austin Tx airport this morning, I heard an ad on the radio about rent a tire. Apparently you can rent your wheels and tires instead of buying them. The ad made me think about this thread.

On the radio here, I also heard you can get a 2011 carolla for 11k with no money down and pmts of 189 a month. Might be worth looking to over the Honda if you are still interested in a newer car.
