You forgot a couple.

7. Have your car tuned beforehand, have a spare laptop battery for track tuning.
8. Don't forget your race gas.
9. Bring extra axles.
10. Fix boost leak.
11. Put IC couplings back on, again, and again.
12. Replace blown clutch in the pits that puked on the line.
13. Pick pieces of xfer case off the starting line.
14. Apologize to the track guys for picking up your xfer case parts off the starting line.

Just a few I could think of off the top of my head. Running 12's is a piece of cake, running faster than that gets increasingly harder.

You guys wouldn't be the first ones here to brag about theoretically running 10's right off the trailer. Hell, Swifty does it every spring.

I'll run a ten before both of you fools, hahahahahahaha cough cough!

I am up near 460hp levels now and I bet I will still only run 11.1s. I hate my 6 speed I am sure it also hates me.

Still on a single walbro on stock fuel wiring, 60K miles of straight E85 and still ticking. Take that all you dual/triple/special pump fools!

BTW, 8500rpm is the new safe rev limit for stock motor evos.

Sorry, I wanted to talk some smack too.

Re: What does it take to run a 10? 500whp@DB, practice, or both? Neither?

So I spoke with Shane today, the guru of drag and evo's, when I dropped my intake off and he said something kind of funny that I think is totally true.

His words were, a good run is luck, lol. He said it has to all fall into place to get a great run.

I think its totally true, unless you are a baller driver, it will take a lucky run to get what you want. Obviously you need the power/weight ratio at a minimum, but beyond that it's luck, the launch and 1-2 shift and still hitting the others. It all has to fall into place. So like I said, i will just be happy to get my car to the strip in one piece, i will worry about times after. But i almost laughed when he said this, because it is so true.

He also said some people, like i guess this curt brown guy in DSM's, are just so awesome, they can jump in your car and drive it 1/2 second faster than you ever possibly could and that is how most of these shops like AWD motorsports run their cars, with super crazy tunes and professional drivers...

So basically, just focus on getting better and worry about you vs yourself, ignore what other people can do. Something I will try to focus on, since a 10 will not happen anytime soon as this thread indicates, lol. All along I was simply trying to say the car will be 10 capable, for a pro driver, maybe i got a little carried away.

Shane always puts stuff into perspective...man i want a car, lol.

This is pretty much my motto. If I compare myself to others I just get depressed, there's always someone making more power with less mods or going faster with some POS. Focus on having fun with it, that's all that matters!

A good run for a rookie is luck. A good run for an experienced driver is just another day.

Re: What does it take to run a 10? 500whp@DB, practice, or both? Neither?

Track condition and weather is a big one, its a bit of luck for sure. If it's not a test and tune day at Rock Falls, I can never seem to 60' out there due to lack of track prep.

Cedar Falls always seems good but its a longer drive and the last few times I went it was busy as fuck (porkies shootout) or my stock clutch was having none of it.

BIR is decent but there are very few days. I went to one Wednesday night street drag and everyone only got two runs in before they shut it down, it was late summer and it was literally two hours of racing and a ton of cars. We all met on the track and they drew our names out of a bucket to see who one the prizes, I took third and got a $35 sunbeam tach that only went to 7,000 rpms. LOL

Grove Creek is cheap and fun, 1/8th mile is not as boring as you would think. Its good experience, everything that matters pretty much happens in the first 330' anyway. Its fun driving out there for Friday night races and racing the country folk and beat their piece of shit cars.

I guess they don't do Friday nights anymore, bummer. Looks like its Saturdays that they do the street legal drags.

Lame, well I don't have a car.
I was gonna cruise with munchgsx, if not I'll work on some cars and drink some beer and listen to tunes. All invited of course assuming we don't get this torrential storm they are talking about.

This is true. Brent Rau jumped in my car and ran a 12.02 babying it when I was running consistent 12.5's. I'm sure the spread would have been a full second if my car was faster at the time. It was making ~390whp in FWD mode at Elite way back in the day. Curt Brown weighs about 135 lbs, so you could probably knock off another tenth with him driving.
