Re: Cold weather issues?
I have to say I have been *insanely* impressed my car so far this winter. This fall, I was worried my mini-battery was on its last legs. With the headgasket issues the car sat for a few 5-day stretches or so and even didn't start once. Since the car has been running happily again, I have had *zero* battery issues and it consistently cranks right over, even in the -11' weather we've been having.
I have heard and seen horror stories of guys running E85 in the winter and having hard-start problems. I am happy to report that my carts on the second or third crank every time (turn key, crank-crank-vroom!) and needs little to no warm-up time, especially since someone unlocked a bit of that info from the stock ECU for tweakage.
Lastly, snow tires. It's been 10 years since I've had a car with snow tires, and all I gotta say is DAMN I love these General Altimax Arctics I put on the Evo. On ice, they rock. In slush, they rock. In snow, they rock! On the dry, they are a tad bit marshmellowy, but once I got them inflated properly I am happy to say that they have been decent in the 1 or 2 dry days we've had since I put them on, LOL! These things almost grip too much, I can't wait to do some actual deep snow plowing action with them. The 2-4" snowfalls we've had so far have proven to be childsplay for these suckers.
If you're reading this and you don't drive your car in the winter (your FUN car), you are MISSING OUT!
