They have, MN (and most other states for that matter) just isn't willing to pay for it. They should do it right the first time so it lasts 20 years, not the typical 3 it seems to take for a new road to get full of cracks and holes after a few harsh winters. Hell, aren't certain stretches of the Autobahn still utilizing the original pavement?

Being down in Dallas I've grown to love toll roads. It costs me ~$3/day round-trip to/from work, but the tollways are always in much better repair and larger/wider compared to their state freeway counterparts.

Even more reason to throw flaming bags of shit at the government's doorstep. MN ALWAYS has road construction. We start to fix the damage from the winter in spring, then by October/November-ish we finish, only to have our plows tear all of our work up for the next 6 months. And repeat.

I don't know if I would like tolls or not. I don't mind paying the tolls on the way to Chicago. Plus, even Chicago has decent roads in downtown.

It pretty much all evens out in the end. I pay tolls, but my car gets less wear and tear from rough roads and better MPG commuting since the roads flow better. I have a tolltag in my windshield so I don't have to stop or even slow down, plus the tolls only cost 50-75% of the cash value.
