FYI- Minneapolis Parking Ban
Minneapolis limits street parking until April 1
Snowbanks have narrowed the streets, leaving not enough room for both parked cars and emergency vehicles. Last update: February 9, 2010 - 11:22 PM With curbside snow piles turning many city streets into narrow passageways, Minneapolis is banning parking on one side of most residential streets starting Thursday. That day at 8 a.m., parking will be banned on the even-numbered side of non-snow emergency routes. The ban will last until April 1, unless conditions allow it to be lifted earlier, the city said Tuesday. The ban begins 12 hours after the current snow emergency ends at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The city noted that about 30 inches of snow had fallen so far this season, with very little melting. Narrowed streets can be tricky for large emergency vehicles such as firetrucks or ambulances if cars are parked on both sides, hence the restriction. UGH why dont they just ban it for a while and plow the streets wider? lol Idiots. |
Re: FYI- Minneapolis Parking Ban
That's stupid. What about the tens of thousands of people who don't have off-street parking? Where are going to park now?!

They need to fix the damn potholes too. F this state, my cars is dying. Lyndale is so bad right near loring park, its like a mine field!

It could be worse....
http://blog.al.com/jkennedy/2008/09/pothole.jpg But I do know what you mean. It's amazing that we haven't figured out a better way to make roads by now, or at least a better, easier way to fix them. The stuff they spray in there now gets torn apart a day after they do it anyway. Just tax dollars wasted away. |

Being down in Dallas I've grown to love toll roads. It costs me ~$3/day round-trip to/from work, but the tollways are always in much better repair and larger/wider compared to their state freeway counterparts. |
Re: FYI- Minneapolis Parking Ban
There are huge crators everywhere. Highways are terrible when your driving 60 - 65 miles an hour and thet just pop up out of nowhere. it is unbelievable.

the pot holes suck. I hit a huge one with the talon and it ripped of the muffler so I have to fix it today

Even more reason to throw flaming bags of shit at the government's doorstep. MN ALWAYS has road construction. We start to fix the damage from the winter in spring, then by October/November-ish we finish, only to have our plows tear all of our work up for the next 6 months. And repeat. I don't know if I would like tolls or not. I don't mind paying the tolls on the way to Chicago. Plus, even Chicago has decent roads in downtown. |
Re: FYI- Minneapolis Parking Ban
Mpls has done this before. They did it back when I lived in Uptown, it made finding a parking space quite an adventure and usually a long walk. But last time I was down in Uptown, I unfortunately took my Suburban and you could barely even fit 1 lane of traffic down some of the 2-way side streets.
The roads around Chicago and especially the toll road were terrible in the 90s. They fixed a lot of it in the last 15 years. The toll roads from the WI border down to chicago used to have big buckles every 20 feet or whatever across them. I had a CRX back then that got a crack in the windshield from that toll road and got to watch it grow across the whole window on the way to Chicago as I hit each bump. At least you can haul ass on the road without much trouble from the local law enforcement. |

I'm afraid to look under my car. Wouldn't doubt that more than just my coilover is shot on the left front.
Going from University to the 280 entrance is a disaster. There are massive potholes, a normal car would easily bottom out if they drove straight into one. Areas along 35W between 36 and 694 are terrible too. |
Re: FYI- Minneapolis Parking Ban
Some areas of Michigan have reverted to gravel roads since they're easier/cheaper to maintain. They actually chopped up some paved roads b/c they couldn't afford to repair them any longer.

Re: FYI- Minneapolis Parking Ban
It damn near is like gravel in some places. They attempt to fill in the holes with asphalt, but that just gets ripped out in a day or two and then there is gravel everywhere.
