A man went to a party and drank some of the punch. He then left early. Everyone else at the party who drank the punch subsequently died of poisoning. Why did the man not die?

A man lives on the 24th floor of an apartment building. In the morning he takes the elevator from the 24th floor to the first floor. When he comes home at night he takes the elevator from the 1st floor to the 18th floor, and then walks up the stairs to the 24th floor. Why?
