The sonata is a solid choice, my uncle has one and loves it. He puts a ton of miles on it too for work. Altima might be another good one to check out, but is more money than the sonata. The Cruze ECO has been getting killer reviews too.

I was just reading a car and driver and they rated the kia higher, same car but the kia has a lot nicer interior and comes with every option possible on those cars at no extra charge. I think they look great too.

^Definitely. If you like the Hyundai, also check out the Kia version since they're the same cars, but Kias are generally cheaper and include more standard options.

My opinion, they both have their ups and downs. Overall I equally like them in the end. They have really stepped up their game and make some nice cars now. I've been comparing these along with the fusion and malibu when I get them as rentals for the last couple years now as possible new cars for my wife to replace her Mazda 6. All the ones I've driven were 4cyl. Heres my thoughts on them.

Optima: better exterior, interior feels dated, rear seats uncomfortable, drove really nice.
Sonata: decent exterior, much nicer/modern interior, heavy gas pedal makes accelerating from a stop kind of lurchy.

My personal favorite all around so far has been the Malibu, for whatever its worth. Doesn't stand out in any one category, but overall I like it as a whole more than the others.

Who is giving the Cruze good reviews?! It's a fucking Daewoo*. I've read nothing but bad things about them, from recalls, to transmission failures.

*Okay, technically it's owned by Chevy now. But the old Daewoo plant, and all of its engineers were bought by Chevy - It's still a Daewoo.

Have you driven a modern Daewoo, or are you judging them by their crap they built in the 90's? They are similar to Hyundai and KIA. They used to make crap boxes but their new stuff is much nicer. We often get Daewoo's as rentals when we are overseas. I'd take one over a Galant or Lancer.

Are they still sourcing their engines from Holden?

-Sincerely a Daewoo driver.

I had a Malibu as a rental when I was up in MN last month and you're right, there's nothing amazing about it, but it's a decent all-around basic car.

Doesnt Holden use GM engines?
