Damn, blew the motor!

So I was driving around pulling this heavy ass trailer with my inline diesel motor. Well, I hit some dirt and the trailer dug in and I started building boost. Well, I watch my boost gauge go over 150PSI and then it happened. Its terrible, it might cost a little bit to fix. How much you think some new pistons/rods/crank/block/head will cost because I had to weld the head to the block in order for it to hold up to the pressures. I guess I found the weak point on my motor.

Heres the Pics:

Thats awesome. Those turbo class tractor's are insane. And thats soo cool that those diesel engines have the removeable/replaceable cylinder sleeves.

Re: Damn, blew the motor!

Talk about catastrophic failure. From the look of it (especially the last picture) the block itself failed, ripping it in half.

That is totally insane. Does that happen often to high-boost diesel motors?

I've watched plenty of tractor pulls, both on TV and in person, and have NEVER seen anything like that.

Re: Damn, blew the motor!

I've already seen it but man it is still crazy to look at. It truely ripped the block in half!!!

and actually they typically run 175-200LBS of boost.

Re: Damn, blew the motor!

Its really debated quite a bit. Some people say they run 150, and others say they will run as high as 325lb's of boost when fully spooled. Most of the guys don't talk about it, so odd's are we will never know!

Re: Damn, blew the motor!

well, that class super tractor apparently only allows one turbo, and 325 psi from one big daddy turbo doesn't really seem within the realm of possibility. but, i guess i just don't know.

he needs to now weld vertical plate steel around the block every 2 inches for block integrity.
