joining the marines.

Yes i know me a marine, haha laugh it up. I am currently waiting on some papers. once they clear, I will be swearing in for the marines. I will be leaving for boot camp in may most likely after i finish up the my spring semester. I am soo pumped, I dont think ive been more happy for something in my entire life. Sure it will be hard, but boot camp will be over in 13 weeks after i leave. then i come back for about 10 days and im off to "shooting camp". then back until my job training. ahh this is going to be great for me, i just know it.

just thought i would share my christmas present to DSMstyle now!

Re: joining the marines.

I met this girl once. Beautiful, veeeery smart, young, etc... Unfortunately, before I met her she had already made up her mind to join the Air Force. At some point during her basic training she injured her thumb and was given a discharge. From what I gathered, the military breaks you down to build you back up during basic. Compound the breaking down proceedure with the physical/mental failure on her part and the result is one crazy, depressed bitch. I just thought I'd share that.

I have several friends that were in the Marines. Good luck. Hoo-rah!

Funny!

Happy killing, I have a few relatives that are/were in the army/marines. Don't think I would care for it though.

Interesting choice coming from you Colin.

Surprising, that's for sure. I think it's a wise move though, and props to you for being stoked about it. Alot of people LOVE the armed forces.

Re: joining the marines.

I have thought about this deeply in the last 2 years but everything seems to good to be true. Although if I were to choose one it would definately be the Marines or the Air Force. They have it a lot easier than the Army thats for sure.

My cousin is in the Army and said they flew into Kosovo to their base, as they came upon this base they saw a pool, volleyball courts, a bunch of people looking like they were having a good time, and thought to himself this is going to be great. Then they just kept going and he was like WTF??? Then the captain mentioned that it was another 5 miles to their base which ended up being just a couple tents and a good amount of fox holes. The base they passed over was the Air Force base.

Re: joining the marines.

Are you saying the ARMY is easier then the Marines? No F-ing way. You walk past an ARMY soldier on a base, with his pants tucked into his unpolished boots, then you see a Marine walk buy with spit shined boots, and a uniform that has perfect creases in it, and that alone will tell you theres a rather significant difference. Ya it's just a uniform, but that's the life of a Marine. You will be squared away at just about all times. There is no bending the rules. Not for liberty time off, not for a dirty uniform, nothing. You will land at that Kosovo base, but in a beat up ass helicopter, and you will have a perfectly shaved face, because facial hair is not allowed, no questions asked. It doesn't matter if the chopper ride is bumpy, and you have no shaving cream or water. Your shit will be shaved. The Marine Corps is a totally different world then the rest of the branches.

Congrats on your choice man, you picked the top branch of them all. It's true, they brake you down and build you up. But if you think the Bullshit ends after you graduate bootcamp, you couldn't be more wrong. Matter of fact, your "shooting camp" which was called MCT last I heard, was even worse then bootcamp. But until you pick up CPL, expect more bullshit then you ever knew was possible.

I'm not trying to scare you away from it, it's a great thing. It has it's ups and downs, but in the end, when you're all done, it was worth every single shitty paycheck!! Good luck man!!! Semper Fi!!

I feel I should add that if it weren't for people like you, Brandon and my relatives that this country would not be the place it is. All of us can thank you guys (and girls) for what we have.

I'm sure you've heard it before but it's true! Just think about what it would be like if the Axis had won WWII.

OK whatever maybe I'm slow, but it still sounds like you're saying the Marines AND Air Force are easier then the ARMY. I agree the AF is the easiest, but marines is by far the most challenging of any branch. Either way, serving in general is an awesome thing, no matter the branch. Congrats again and good luck!

Re: joining the marines.

From what I've heard and seen, the Marines seems to be the most difficult and extreme branch. Air Force is the easiest....probably leading to my interest in them a few years ago when I figured I'd give it a try.

Well, I know a few guys in college who are in the army, and they have friends who are marines, and when the army guys talked about basic training, they said that they probably would have never made it through the marine training.

So to all of my friends in the army, Marines is more hardcore than Army.

Re: joining the marines.

My bad.. For some reason I was thinking Marines but I ment Navy/Air Force. Navy is easier. I dont know why I was thinking it was the Marines.

Re: joining the marines.

It's not a matter of what branch is "harder". It's what they are used for. Marines have to be more hardcore than standard Army Infantry. This is not to say that the Army doesn't have a bunch of hardcore motherfuckers for when it's needed.

Yeah, I think they were just talking about the training aspect, it was way more physically demanding, longer, and more in depth according to them.

I definately wouldn't want to mess with the army guys even though they aren't as "Hardcore" as the marines.

Re: joining the marines.

When I said the Marines were the Hardest, I wasn't saying it meaning "Hardcore, badass, etc". What I meant was Harder as in "Difficult, strict, disciplined". I'd be a complete liar to say that all marines were more HARDCORE then anyone else. I'm sure a Navy Seal would rip me apart. But what I am saying is, if you were to see me and a navy seal next to each other, on base, in our old cammies that required ironing, you would have known right off the bat who was the marine by appearance alone. That's because it's drilled into every marine that their appearance will be above and beyond at all times while in uniform. While the other 3 branches don't require creases in their day to day uniforms, Marines require them in all uniforms, at all times while in garrison. We shine our boots, we iron our uniforms, and we shave daily, and get hair cuts everyweek. If you don't do any of that, you can expect an ass chewing. Anywho, nothing against any other branches. Every branch has it's role, and they do it well. Marines are there to follow orders and do what they are told on the drop of the dime, so it is drilled into their brains at all times even on the most minor shit.

Funny!! I guess I will never know, and neither will this guy joining neither. Because once you've gone through Marine boot camp, you never have to go through another branches boot camp if you ever decide to move to another branch. They accept you as is, because they know you've already had training well beyond the scope of what theirs is.

But if anyone from another branch decides they want to move into the Marines. It doesn't matter how high of rank they had, they will lose their rank and go back to the bottom of the gene pool and become "Recruit" once again, and go through all Marine boot camp just like any other marine has to. The title marine isn't given away, it's earned, no way around it.
