Strongest Atlantic Hurricane EVER

Went from not being a hurricane at all to a Category 5 in less than 2 days. Lowest pressure recorded... 175mph winds... Florida will be the new American wasteland.

Go to http://www.thestormtrack.com for an easily understandable article about hurricane Wilma.

Absolutely amazing, the power of mother nature. Bush may as well declare Florida and the SW a disaster area since it looks like he is going to have to anyways.

Re: Strongest Atlantic Hurricane EVER

Every weather model has the storm hitting Florida on the western coast. They aren't expecting it to weaking at all, at most to a strong category 4.

A cool tool using Google Maps of the satellites that are predicting the storm track. Ignore XTRP, that's an extrapolation prediction using current mathematical data and doesn't factor in atmospheric conditions.

Damn. Fuel was just down to $2.25/gal too. Getting out of Florida is gonna be one huge cluster. This could be worse than the last two.

Re: Strongest Atlantic Hurricane EVER

We are now schedualed to leave in about 30 minutes. With it being said it will probably be a strong category 3 maybe a 4 when it hits we took extra time to move as much as we could away from the windows. The car is on Jack stands as high as I could get it, and as close to the entrance of our house as possible (ie: farthest point away from the garage door as possible) We are only taking the concorde so I'll be parking the Jeep infront of the door. Hopefully it'll stop any would be looters from breaking in. There are a lot of people in my townhouse complex that know about my car and a lot of teenage/early 20year old misfits. (with this place being converted to townhouse's the neighborhood went down hill some what) Pitbulls seem to be thee dog of our complex. hell florida for that matter. I'd have to say every other house I've been to has at least 1 pitbull. One of our costomers was a breader and had over 20 in his back yard.

Re: Strongest Atlantic Hurricane EVER

I got 3 phone calls on my trip up north. From people who still hadn't got there roofs done. I laugh at that... there are thousands still with just tarps on there house's for roofs. But they were the idiots that spent the money on other things thinking it wouldn't happen again.

I told them there was nothing I could do for them till I get back after the storm. Anyrate it looks like it's dieing down pretty well and is only supposed to be a Cat 1 or 2 (70-110mph winds) which is good for all those Tile Roof people I gave estimates to that didn't believe me there roof was totaled and when the next storm comes through it would blow off all there tiles. (ie: on several roofs I could just move the tiles where ever I wanted to. Which you aren't supposed to be able to move them up or down more then a 1/4" if you can then they need to be re-attached to the roofs, I had an entire neighborhood I gave estimates to that I could just take the tiles completely off the roof if I wanted to, but of coarse they wouldn't believe me they said how could i need a new roof if the tiles are still there, oh well they'll learn soon enough)

Re: Strongest Atlantic Hurricane EVER

Well we are leaving tonight to head home. Got word last night from a salesman in my office that the Townhome complex I live in has power. And according to the West palm beach city website the water is now safe to drink again.

Just have to figure out the Gas situation and we're good to go. I already recieved 6 phone calls for roofs that were referals from other customers. And I've been getting asked to bring tarps back with me for those customers in need until we get kicked off again. (we can charge the insurance company's minimum $800 a roof to tarp)

Re: Strongest Atlantic Hurricane EVER

Well made it back home and everything is ok. (except a smelly refrigerator)

My apartment complex took a beating. And today when I went into pay rent I of coarse popped the question about the roof. And they asked me to get them a proposal/Bid ASAP.

So I'll be spending all day Thursday measuring the 3 story roofs of my townhouse complex all 14 or so buildings took some heavy abuse.

I was surprised to see how much damage there is. There is a forest between Indiantown road and Donald Ross, and it looks like someone went through and cut the trees in half, the entire length of the forest. (which is about a few miles long down the highway and as far as you can see out towards the coast) Must have been the path of the EYE of the storm or something I'd never seen anything like it.

The eye of any hurricane is more than just a couple miles wide. Most likely could have been a tornado or just some crazy straightline winds.

If, for instance, the eye were to pass directly over you it would be like hell is breaking loose with wind blowing in one direction, the strongest part of the hurricane. While in the eye it would be dead calm, and it would most likely be sunny and clear straight above you with clouds in all directions. After a while the winds would pick up and would be blowing in the opposite direction as before with the same intensity.

So what is the outlook of returning to Minnesota now? Sounds like you might be busy for a bit.

Is this the first powerful hurricane you have had to deal with?

Stinky fridges suck but good thing it wasn't worse.
