OK,
How do you remove the 5th gear from a fwd 2g 5sp trany???
puley pullers have too fat teeth to fit around the gear and its super tight on there..
don't want to pry it off because it could break...
Anyone got a puller that fits for it?

mine was pretty loose, just slid off, but a friend had to use a puller to get it off...They aren't that brittle, you can pull em pretty hard, but I have chipped a few myself...As long as the tooth itself is still intact there wont be a problem, minor chips are expected...

There are several different kinds of pullers. I found one at an auto parts store that had pretty fat teeth. Make sure to get a 3 prong one. I did have to grind them down a tad, but they were pretty damn close. It was at autozone I think.

I couldn't get that to work. I was literally standing on 2 pry bars and it didn't budge. Both were over 12" long too. Just get the gear puller, it will save a lot of frustration. You can borrow mine if you want too. Dunno why I didn't think of that earlier!

both are stronger than hell and will never break unless you are trying to. I went with new stock forks because i dont smash the tranny into gear ever. if you are worried, upgrade, but get the cheaper set.
I would rather spend that money on the DSMs real weakness: syncros. I would get 1-4 double syncro'd if you can afford it. my year old 3rd gear syncro is already starting to crunch a little after a season of racing, and i am very kind to my tranny.

I asked him if he would sell the parts individually but he said he doesn't make much on the parts and so he doesn't stock many. I supose i could throw a few bucks in extra if he would sell me, maybe that would be an incentive enough?

I think TRE might be the only place to buy double syncros. BM and Shep have them i think, but i dont know that they sell them seperately from their trannies.
Conicelli sells evo forks for cheap, but they have plastic wear pads. TRE sells much spendier Evo forks that are moddified with metal wear pads. When I talked to John at TRE he also recomended getting upgraded shift rails when you got heavy duty rails, as that would then be the weak link.
I would poke around on their site a bit and come up with a parts list that fits your budget. TRE

honestly price isn't that big of an issue right now, i want it done right since its getting done eithe way.. i rather spend the few extra bucks now than do it all over again next year...
The problem is that TRE does not have parts individually for sale but they will have them to put in a new trany... get the hint.. they only want to sell me whole trany but not the parts..

I bought all of my parts from TRE to rebuild my tranny. They only have a few parts that they do not sell, like the 3/4 double syncro. Since you cant get that anywhere else either, you might as well get their 3/4 heavy duty setup.
