Boost Gauge issues..

I was out driving home tonight, and my boost gauge was acting funny. It's a faze, mechanical. It would spike to 30 vacuum, and then settle at 20-22 vacuum pressure. Under boost it would work, but then when I shut the car off, it's at a stationary 4-5 vacuum. The gauge has never been off on me before..how could this be? I know that I have a rather large boost leak off of the 1g bov flange, but still..could that really throw it all off?

Re: Boost Gauge issues..

Could be the gauge, it is quite common for mechanical boost gauges to start reading wrong or quit working totally. The best part is when someone thinks they are running 12psi and they are really running 20psi.

Re: Boost Gauge issues..

I tried one of those Faze guages a few years ago and didn't really feel it was good quality to begin with. Way too twitchy for me. It was brand new out of the box and I could hardly read what I was boosting at because it twitched so much. Sounds like a guage problem.

Buy or borrow a quality (known good) guage and put it in there. See what happens then. If it works right, then it's your guage. If it still does the same thing, then you'll have to dig elsewhere. Eliminate the easy stuff first before you assume it's something major. If you need, I have a guage here you can borrow to test it out.

Re: Boost Gauge issues..

Ditto, Faze (F&F version of Sunpro) is a low price boost gauge that is marginal in quality. People have issues with Autometer and they cost twice as much.

Goes back to........You get what you pay for.
