Proj. Talon MR

Woot! I just picked up my buddies (Skipdag on here) old 92 talon as he bought a pretty nice EVO8 from South Dakota. I'll be updating this regularly as I make progress on it but for now it's doing what dsms do best, driveway ornament.

A few pix below of the good, and the reason why it's now sitting, thanks to a 97 year old woman in a SUV failing to yield @ a stop light intersection.

Not a fan of the interior but it looks clean! Get that damage fixed and it'll be perfect.

Alright I got all the clearly damaged parts removed, now I'm in process of scheduling some time on a frame rack. Here's the victims.

Re: Proj. Talon MR

Alright, looks like the front bumper escaped completely unharmed. The hood closes correctly and looks alight, although there are 2 weird looking dents it it now that aren't from the accident, no idea where those came from. PDR may be able to take care of them, otherwise I'll either replace it with one from a junkyard ( I know of 2 junkyards with 3 white 92+ talons) but that would be spending more money and getting the same old heavy stock hood (WTF do these hoods weigh like 50 lbs?).

Or I can put the money towards a carbon fiber hood. I've liked the idea of Deft Racing's colored carbon fiber/Kevlar hoods. I was thinking of going with what they call their silver carbon fiber hood. I think it looks pretty good a white car. Example of one installed on a white stealth.

Damn, that thing is clean other than the accident damage. Good luck with your build!

Sweet man! This looks like a good project! How bad is the frame damage? Can't wait to see this thing tooling around again.

Re: Proj. Talon MR

I got all the suspension back together on drivers side. Now it's off to the frame shop to get straightened. Oddly enough I test fit the new fender that I picked up onto the frame rail and it still lines up for the most part. I could actually bolt it to the chassis b/c of how large the mounting holes are on the fender.

So far I replaced the broken knuckle with a used one that I rebuilt completely, rebuilt axle halfshaft from Napa, new k-sport coilover that took way too long to receive (a little over a month to get - ridiculous!) . When other one of these k-sports go I'm not getting another because the cost and the wait, (not to mention their performance) isn't worth it. Probably just go with some lowering springs.

Now I have to track down another ADR GT-Sport 18" rim, they are older than sh*t, and noone has them anymore. I'd rather have a complete set that I could use than have 3 that I can't. Doesn't really matter though, as I have a set of Evo MR rims that will go on.

That think is clean looking. If you get it done in time, that could be a serious competitor at the Cookout.

Re: Proj. Talon MR

Update, When I put the new axle in on drivers side, I drained the tranny fluid, and put in the redline cocktail.

Tonight, got the battery back in, double checked everything, and started it up. Everything works great, with the exception of the dash lights / parking lights don't work. Fuse pops immediately when I try to turn them on. Must have a pinched wire to ground where the sheet metal is folded. I took it for a quick spin around the block and it drives pretty good with it needing an alignment. Planning on dropping it off @ body shop Wednesday morning. After that going back to Jeff the Alignment guy. Don't think it will be done in time for the cookout though.

Re: Proj. Talon MR

I put the EVO MR wheels on it and sent off to Sears body shop to get the frame strightened. Drove it up 494 @ around 60 MPH felt great, no weird vibrations, pulses, just smooth. Needs an alignment badly, but that will be done after the sh*t is straightened.

Some co-workers of mine wondering why I'm calling my talon, the MR, because I'm eventually swapping as many Evo parts onto it as it can take. I'm looking into those Brembo brackets that dude on DSMTuners makes, and eventually get some Brembos on it. I'm leaning toward the FP HTA68 for the turbo, or maybe EVO 3, I can get a genuine Evo 3 turbo on 3si for $475 shipped.

I just picked up the crystal clear headlights / turn signals from Desolate on here. They look great should really modernize the front of this car. And got a valve cover from him too. I'm thinking of having Primo Performance powercoat it gloss white to match the cermanic coated FP race manifold.
