4bolt Exhaust Side Vs 5 Bolt Exhaust Side

Ok I was just reading on Tuners about the turbonetics manifold, etc.

And Ben from AGP said you can't use a 4 bolt T3 exhaust housing on the Turbonetics manifold unless your willing to grind down the turbo and block to an Unsafe level?

Is this because of the fitment issues? or what? I have a spacer plate. And since I'm looking to buy the turbo in a month or 2 I need to know if I have to go with the 5 bolt or not. (I was really hoping to go with the 4 bolt)

With a 4bolt turbine housing and a turbonetics manifold, the exaust housing will hit the front balance shaft galley. But with a spacer between the manifold and the head(mine is 3/8" thick) I have a little room to clear, and thats on a .82a/r exaust housing(4bolt). Also for the guys running/planning on running the new(er) GT series turbos their exaust housings, and wheels are smaller but flow more, so there might not be a problem. And the spacer will help with the water pipe and the compressor cover spacing.

Yes with the spacer plate you have, its all good.

You can also get a 5-bolt PTE housing. Mo's fits fine with plenty of space to spare. The 5-bolt PTEs were designed after the 4-bolt garrett housing and perform like one, they are much better than the old style 5-bolt ones.

Most people say go with 4bolt? but the reason is probably based on the previous design flaws.

The 4-bolt is way better than the old 5-bolt Garrett housing. Turbonetics still uses the old one. PTE made their own version that is much more efficient. The copied the 4-bolt design, but put a 5-bolt flange style on the casting. Mo's has the PTE 5-bolt style on his and it fits fine with the Turbonetics manifold with no spacer.
