What I'm specifically looking for are power metal bands, ones like Dragonforce, melodic metal. I listen to Dream Theater a lot as well.
Some bands I enjoy listening to:
Kamelot
Iced Earth
Sonata Arctica
Nightwish
I know there are a TON of bands out there, but are there any others that you like and would suggest listening to? What I don't want are Cookie Monster vocals and double-bass kicks that last the entire song.
If you have other metal bands that aren't quite this genre but are good listening feel free to share. Yes, I know Tool owns all, but I'm not narrow minded.
