Built my first computer
Just got done building it, and getting her up and running, and most of the basic software stuff I need. Pretty cool though. It really wasn't that hard at all, and man I saved a ton of money. In the end, it cost me right around $690 for everything, including the case. Here's a couple quick snap shots I took!
Some of the specs...
AMD Athalon X2 64 Dual-Core, 2.0ghz
1gb ddr2 ram
sataII 80 and 250gb Hard Drives
Abit KN9 motherboard w/ 1000MHz FSB
ATI 256mb/256bit video card
LG DVD burner
Sony DVD ROM
Centurion Case

Good job, man. I guarantee that you will never buy a pre-built computer again aside from a laptop.

Re: Built my first computer
Nice! That's definatly the route I'm going next time around. Just wanna get something that will be a video editing machine! And from what I've seen it's much much much cheaper to make one than buy one pre made.

Re: Built my first computer
The only reason i built this one is because my old one was pretty bare bones, and we are starting to do some real basic video editing stuff. Now with this, it should work A LOT better. Oh and plus I can burn movies now toO!!
I wonder how much this computer would have cost from like Dell. I paid $690, and I'm guessing this would have cost well over a thousand from a company like Dell or any of those other companies.

Thats real nice there. I keep telling my friends and family to let me build them there comp. But nope they rather spend it. My wifes side that is. But ya very nice man. You have USB2.0 or firewire for transfers of the vid to the comp?

Re: Built my first computer
That is the only way to buy a computer, great job man.
You can make a gaming computer equal to any alienware for 1/5th the price. Can even buy the alienware case if you really want offline too for like 100 bucks.

Nice! I've been building cpus for as long as I can remember (damn, that makes me sound old!). Well, I'll just say that the first machine that I built had a 266Mhz pentium2. You gonna overclock that beast?
Nice mobo selection, btw. Abit is my personal favorite!

Nah, I can top that! My first was in '87 and it was a 386 running at 40 mhz with a math co-processor. It was screaming!
Gratz Brandon, it is pretty amazing how easy it is!

Re: Built my first computer
Thats tight. I got into computer building like 6-7 years ago. That shit came to a crashing halt when my mom caught me with the computer apart for the first time. She was soooo pissed. Now I am into cars and I can take them apart when ever the hell I want . Where did you get the parts?

Re: Built my first computer
As luck would have it, I was on slickdeals today and got a case and 500w power supply, both free after rebate! I'll slowly start collecting parts when a great deal comes up. How much was your MB and CPU brandon? I saw them for $220 on a combo deal and almost went for it.

Re: Built my first computer
Good job man! Now overclock it! That CPU has a LOT of headroom.... and I think we can all agree we like speed
This is my PC... http://www.thedoughtcom.com/images/d...ge3/final1.jpg
The LSE 3S version of the PC world.
AMD Opteron 165 (Dual Core) 1.8GHz @ 2.8GHz (Water Cooled)
SLI 7800GT's @ GTX speeds
needless to say I'm not rushing out to buy a 360.

Re: Built my first computer
I bought the parts off newegg.com. The CPU was like 150, and the motherboard was like 75.
Honestly, I don't plan on overclocking the CPU. The Bios seems to allow my to over clocke it to 4.0ghz, but I'm not really a gamer, and don't see a reason right now for me to overclock it. All I'm doing is some video editing, and I think this will work find for me. If I do need to overclock it though, it is nice to have that option available.
The case I got from Micro Center. I had a hard time finding a case I liked. I wanted something clean/nice looking. It was hard because it seemed like 90% of the cases out there now look like they came off a UFO and have crazy lights all over the place. I didn't want that, I just wanted something nice and clean looking. This one turned out pretty well!

Re: Built my first computer
Looks good man, glad it all worked out! I've always liked building/piecing together my own computers. Generally save money plus you get exactly what you want!

Re: Built my first computer
Exactly, even if you don't get it cheaper, the parts inside are usually much better quality.
