Ok i was wondering if this is possible one of my friends gave me the idea, He said i should take my side mount intercooler and mount it up front. Question, is this a good idea would it work any better than a side mount location let me know i'm interested.

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
I'm sure it would help some, but it would also look ugly as hell! There would almost be more work getting piping to fit that kind of set up compared to just getting a full fmic.

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
Like ^he said. You might as well just get a FMIC, i might know someone that has a JRC FMIC for cheap cause he don't care about his old car anymore.

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
I dont think its worth it. When its on the side it gets plenty of airflow. Putting it in the front will only be alot of work piping it and mounting it and it(as stated above)will look ugly. The sidemount is gonna stay the same size and the air flow wont be increased that much. The work/function ratio is high(alot of work with little to no function).

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
1. No, it will not be better.
2. 13's isnt fast. It's not even an improvement over what 1 sidemount can do.
3. I dont think it would even get more air up front.

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
Probably wouldn't help a ton. If you wanna go cheap, pick up a cheapo FMIC core off of ebay for $100 or whatever and run your own piping. You'll be amazed how far $200 will go!

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
Mine was around $200. Less, but after some more T-bolts It will hit $200. Just be sure you can weld better than I can...

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
The stock sidemounts are still up front getting fresh air. Moving it to the center of the car won't change anything.

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
I had a friend out in San Diego when I lived in that neck of the woods, running low 12's with 2 sidemounts that he had welded together, using it as a front mount. Ghetto as hell, I loved it!

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
I know Dejon used to sell 2 or 3 stock sidemounts welded together as a FMIC kit.

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
It's not a waste of money if the price is right, and you heatsoak like a mother on even semi warm days. Sure, it's no HUGE FMIC with great heat disipation. But for $40 or less i got rid of heatsoaking the SMIC, and with little change in lag.
I don't see why everyone's so down on it when it fixes the problem of SMIC heatsoak and actually helped the free mods i did actually do me soem good. Oh well, to each their own right? Plus, the one i got is dirty enough it's hard to see in low light situations and cloudy days. So it's more... sleperish. If that's even a word.

Clean it and it'll work even better for you.

Re: stock side mount to front mount?
It's just an oil resin, there's no dirt and very, very few bent fins at all. I like the fact it isn't all shiny and sticking out. I didn't get it to look nice, or show off. Just for elimination of heat soak. Nothing more.
