Re: 2.4l???
using the 2.0 block you can put a "stroker" crank kit in it to achieve 2.3 or 2.4L displacement. this = $$$$$$.
But 9 times out of 10 they are talking about the 4g64. (same as g4cs)
The process involves finding a 91 hunday sonata, taking the motor.
Using only the block and the crank from the hunday, add all of the stuff from your 2.0 (head, water pump, oil squirters, oil pan, timing junk, etc...) to the 2.4.
TAADAAAAA!! you have a 2.4 monster motor. (you will also NEEEEEED new pistons)
Seems complicated, but its totally worth it, I shall have on sooner or later.

Re: 2.4l???
There are MANY cars you can find a 6bolt 4G64. I see one or two just sitting in junkyards all the time. As he said, most of the time when someone is talking about the "2.4L" they mean they have a 2.4L block from one of mnay non-turbo cars. Then you put in low compression pistons, and the DOHC turbo head bolts right on, as well as pretty much everything else. So, you basically "swap blocks" to get a .4L increase in displacement. And with our little 4 bangers, every little increase helps!

Re: 2.4l???
Spyders have a 7 bolt motor......people usually dont upgrade those. I am not saying it cannot be done, I am just suggesting that you go 6 bolt.
4g64 usually means 7 bolt.
g4cs usually means 6 bolt.

Re: 2.4l???
Does your Eclipse Spyder have the 2.4l in it already or do you have a turbo motor? I kinda like the 7-bolt 2.4ls, especially with all the 6-bolt 2.4l crank failures.

Re: 2.4l???
The 6 bolt 46g4's are most commonly found in the 89-91 Hyundai Sonata's. There are a few other colt's, minivans, and other passanger cars that contained both the 6 and 7 bolt flavors.

Re: 2.4l???
Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't all 4g64's have the right block to do so? If so, i've got 3 of them in the local junk yards in the form of 6 bolt Mighty Max engines.
Also, for the 2.3 stroker, isn't it the 4g63 block with a different crank in it? Or was i reading something while drunk?

2.3l is the 4G63 with a different crank, correct.
I thought Mighty Maxs used the Starquest engine though? Maybe I am wrong?

Re: 2.4l???
Only a few of the 2.4's out of various cars will bolt up to our trannies. That's why the Hyundai one is popular. I'm definitely a big fan, I love mine.
