What to get?!
Ok, I'm kinda sick of all my friends having fast cars; if I keep my car, I'm taking out a $3-4k loan... for the hell of it.
I'll get a Shep stage 3 and dyno tuning, and then what I don't know. I was thinking stuff along the lines of: cams, Magnus SMIM, Tein or JIC coilovers, maybe even some Sparco's and a carbon hood hahaha. Any ideas? I have zero suspension mods, a stock tranny (that grinds in 3rd to the point I don't use it), a non eprom ecu, and I really don't like automatic seat belts.
It's a 92 tsi awd 6/4 rebuilt motor and head
br 20g, supporting mods, metal HG, arp's

Re: What to get?!
First question, "How fast do you want to go"?
1. Get an E-prom ECU, install DSMLink.

Re: What to get?!
I might be able to sell you an eprom ecu, but I have to see if I can get mine fixed first.

Re: What to get?!
If you have a Br20g, how is it NOT fast? What do you consider supporting mods? Give us a full list of mods for a question like that. Your car should be in the low 12's pretty easily, which is pretty damn quick.

Re: What to get?!
I think you are on track with a tranny thing, get bushings and everything else you can. I'm with JET, why is it not fast?

Re: What to get?!
Okie dokie:
BR Td05/6 20G @ 20psi
HKS 40mm external gate, mounted on ported 2G manifold
BR 2.5" tubular o2
BR 3" turbo back
BR Street FMIC
660cc, 255lph, and AFPR
GM MAFT v1.6 (just using to compensate for injectors)
3" GM MAF
Apex'i SAFC 5 knob (across the 5 RPM points, all are a few clicks positive.)
I "tuned" using a logger, only going by knock. If it knocked, I added fuel. And that is not a good way to tune, I know. And the knock sensor is new, and torqued to spec.

Re: What to get?!
Get the console and underhood shifter bushings, they make a HUGE difference. For suspension, definitely get some aftermarket swaybars. RM or SuspensionTechniques both make quality products. A dyno-tune will go a long ways too, you might want to start there. As for coilovers, stay away from JIC since they have very poor quality control/build quality, TEIN would be your better choice. Buy a quality coilover sytem though, not just their cheapest one. If you can't afford that, get some AGX shocks and a good spring such as H&R, B+G, etc. GroundControl coilovers handled really well on smooth roads, but damn did they ride rough.

Re: What to get?!
You know you liked my dsmlink , you know you want one. I hear great things about ksport coilovers, and there cheaper then tien and jic. I say screw the C/F hood, i think your car looks great as is. I'd go with TRE personally, there is a thread on DSMlink.com/forums and a guy has a stage 3 shep and it was broken when he got it back and shep wont fix it. Plus i hear the preloads on the syncros from shep are not that good for track use, only good on the drag strip.

Re: What to get?!
TRE builds a very good transmission, but you'll wait for it. His turnaround time and customer service are awful. Personally, I'd go with a BM Tranny, I loved mine and never had a single issue with it. A carbon fiber hood is a good idea as are aluminum (or removed) bumper supports since it will shave off a lot of weight. When I removed my front bumper support I noticed a drastic improvment on corner turn-in. A lightweight battery helps too.

I had no problems getting mine done, took about 2 weeks. And that included cryo treatment & Speed-Design 4 spider & Torrington mod. Are you speaking from experience or internet chatter?

I have not seen a positive TRE customer experience posted on any message board in many months. Your tranny was completed, 2 years ago?

Re: What to get?!
When I had my 20G the car felt nice untuned, so Im pretty sure if you tune/dyno it, you should have no problem running 12s all day long, or even high 11s.
I would stick with the car, work out the quirks and see how it goes. If you want to get out of DSM's get the car running well and sell it before it breaks again

There are no real facts behind what kind of use it has had. The guy thought it was a shift fork and I don't see that breaking by an easy break in. Nobody will know anything of what really is the problem until he pulls if from the car and has it looked at.

Re: What to get?!
How bad is the tranny now? Taking out a loan for mods seems like a bad idea to me. Schedule some dyno time with one of our fine sponsors and see what you can do! A dsm with a 20g is fun, but a dsm with a well tuned 20g is fun and fast!

Re: What to get?!
I might be willing to sell my new 1g dsmlink. LMK if you plan on buying it first. If I sold, I would sell the ecu (with dsmlink installed) software and cable. Everything would be ready to go.
