My Tranny is Up-chucking

I got a problem with my 93' TSi AWD 5spd.

It seems to get worse and worse but I can't stop myself from driving it and now today I think I've finally almost got it to grenade on me.

Problem:
Recently while cruising in 4th gear at about 25-30mph my car starts to "howl" like a MF'er. I'm pretty sure its coming from the trans. My boost guage drops down below 20vac(22vac) and this is when it "howl's". But when I'm over (18vac-10psi) it doesnt make this ridiculous noise. I checked all gears coasting and it only makes this whoribble noise in 4th and 5th. 3rd is good, well was, today while coming home from the gas station I was goin in 4th and it started to really "jerk" around and scared the bejesus out of me, instantly ruining my boner.

Anyone know what it could be? TOB? Clutch? Flywheel?

I know somethings wrong with my trans because it doesnt lock into 1st it just sits there waiting to pop out if I ride the clutch.

Thanks for your time@!

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

This doesn't sound like anything to do with your TOB, clutch, or flywheel.....your tranny internals are broken Time to spend more money!

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

Yeah I figured that but was hoping for something a little cheaper. Ah man I'm screwed. 2 cars, both with trans problems.. I dont know If I want to sell it for a stock one or what the hell to do. Damnit.
I wouldnt mind trading it for a stock/shell and some $$$.

Sell it > Keep it
TRE - Sheptrans

Just incase anyones wondering

93' TSi AWD 5spd
102k
Good: Autometer Phantom Boost Gauge, Debadged, All the nonsense weight is taken out, MBC, 2.5" Cat, Strut tower bar, Optima Red Top, Accel 8mm, BPR7ES, New OEM Clips in interior peices,No P/S, No ABS,Aluminum Knob, Fidanza Shortthrow,Fidanza flywheel(not installed) Walbro 255(not in), AFC2 (not in, for sale), new ext. trim, new tires, tint,
maybe some more good but Im too pissed to think.
bad: *Trans, No A/C, Passenger door isnt the original, although it is the same color but the handle must've been rattle-canned because its chipping, Tint on the doors and hatch are purpleing but still dark and sexy at night.

I dont know for sure if I want to sell it or trade it but I am in need of some cash for school and for a DD.

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

I'd go with a Shep or BM (I had a race-built BM and it was great) trans, screw TRE your car will be rusted in place before you get your trans back.

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

My car will probably be rusted in place before I get the 900-1200$ for the rebuild. I got to save up and pay off some bills first. I dont really want to sell it but if anyone has any really generous offers throw them down!

I've got a decent start on the rebuild funds but damn now I got to look at it everyday in the garage sitting there..

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

Just so you know, your $900-1200 rebuild is going to get expensive fast if you fucked up any of the gears. The rebuilds that shep offers dont cover most hard parts until you get into the stage 2 or higher Until it is torn apart you really wont know how much it is going to cost.

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

Yeah I think the stage 2 was 1200? maybe 1300? but yeah I'll be prepared for more good news when I can get it removed.

Shop wants 350$ for R&R on my trans. Can I drop the trans myself or does the motor need to be lifted out?

What a shitty day.

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

Tranny is pretty easy to drop, the engine doesn't need to be lifted. The tranny is just 1 mount and a bunch of bolts.

If you want something decently priced, use those beastly rubbermaid, sterilite bins or something similar. Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc should carry them. I used a rubbermaid but.. try to find a thick one. Mine kinda ripped/broke onthe bottom. And pack it well.. even though I packed the shizzle out of mine, my end case was broken upon arrival to Sheps place.. damn you FedEx! Good luck.

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

Plywood on the bottom and a lot of old blankets worked great for me.

Re: My Tranny is Up-chucking

I bought a crate over in Menards, it was like $60, ribbed for its pleassure on the bottom and wheels on the one side for my pleassure...

it was big enough to place one full trany and parts for another complete trany inside.

It was sitting over in QPR shop up until the day, wish i knew where it ended up

Thats what I was thinking but I dont have a lot of auto-knowledge but from my BMX experiences the bearings is what I was thinking although I wasn't sure on the internals in a transmission.

I've needed a rebuild since the day I bought the car but I guess I was too into driving the DSM.

My DD dodge intrepid didnt get me nearly as much as my TSi
