Survey Says!
Well I got my car torn apart this afternoon and was pretty happy with what I found, but a little perplexed. One of the tabs on the throw out bearing broke off! Very strange. It was a brand new Mitsu unit with maybe 1k miles on it and 10 launches. At least the clutch is good. I will stop by Brookdale on Mon and grab a new one.
The retainter on the clutch fork had jumped behind the TOB. Hopefully it will be good to go after that. I am not yanking the clutch apart, but that looks fine from the outside.
So, my car should be at the dyno day on Sunday!

Re: Survey Says!
Huh? There's no side-to-side stress on the TOB, how would a tab break off?

installation? Maybe it was cracked before the install and finally broke.

Re: Survey Says!
I know how to put a damn TOB on :P I have no idea what happened, it just must have been a bad TOB. It broke right at the base of the tab where it is bent. There weren't any marks on it or anything from hitting anything.

Re: Survey Says!
The same thing happened to my car. I don't how long the bearing had been in there, but one day I was driving, normaly, then i couldn't get into gear. Opened it up, one of the tabs was broken off.

Hey, it was a 12.4@99!
I am now being sent out of town even earlier, so hopefully the car is going again tonight. I will only have one more day after this to work on it.

Re: Survey Says!
Well I don't know what the fuck is up with it now. I replaced the TOB and that didn't fix it. I can slowly push in the clutch and the twin disk will start to rattle then I push it in further and it makes a god awful noise like a bad bearing. It only does it with the clutch pushed in. The fingers were sitting like normal with it apart and none of the disks looked fragged. I am wondering if maybe I welded one of the disks to the plate? It is a quartermaster twin disk for those that don't know.
My patience is growing thin, I don't have the time to work on this thing all the time.

Re: Survey Says!
maybe you overextended the fingers. aren't you supposed to run a pedal-stop with the QM?

Re: Survey Says!
Hmm. Do you have full throw on the clutch system? Does the fork look worn?

Re: Survey Says!
Is this a clutch from Devo Tuning? If so, I'd suggest getting ahold of Vassil as he has been having a number of issues with his twin disc.

Re: Survey Says!
Yes it is from Devo. I have never heard of using a clutch stop. The clutch fork is a new billet one. Engagement is right in the middle and I do not use an extended slave rod. When it is making the noise it will not fully disengage some of the time.
The clutch fork seems to be moving properly. The rattling (normal) happens 1/3 of the way down, like normal. Get to 1/2 way and that is when the screaching starts.

Re: Survey Says!
I have no idea for your clutch, but a clutch pedal stop is sometimes needed with multi disk clutches.

Re: Survey Says!
Do you have an old ACT layin around? You could always toss something like that in there so you can get er on the dyno I guess that might just be a huge waste of time, but it seems you have one main issue at hand and it could probably be fixed by switching to a 6 puck or something.
