Green Bet
Here's the bet: One month, One tank of gas. I fill up my tank on April 30th, and if I have to stop to fill up in the month of May, then I lose. If I lose, I have to buy my roomate a tank of gas. If I win, my roomate has to buy Me a tank of gas. I only have 6 miles to get to work, so I can easily bike that (which is the point), I already bike to the gym. The grocery store, beer store, etc are all within a mile, so that's pretty easy to bike. Anywhere else I have to go should be covered under one tank of gas.
Who thinks I can do it?
Gas is too freakin' expensive! I've reached the breaking point.

Re: Green Bet
Actually, you bring up a great point: gas prices.....as far as I know, gas will always be around, it will go up and up and up, but so long as we dont notice the almost yearly increase of a dollar, ill keep driving my dsm.....I am moving to saint cloud, where college, work, and the apartment are going to be close by, I am going to buy a bike (and a bike rack for teh galant) and try to conserve gas. Good luck, im sure you can do it.

LoL!
But it's something I wish I could do. Cause it is only gonna get worse before it gets better.

Re: Green Bet
So you better come out tonight with us, since we won't be seeing you for the month!
Actually, good for you. I wish I was within biking distance of all those things. Question though, how do you carry your groceries/beer on your bike? Do you have basket up front you can put them in?

Re: Green Bet
same. I drive way to much to be able to do what you're doing. But you have lots of stores near you, so it makes it much easier for you. I go through a tank every 5 days about =D. If I did what you're doing I'd save a lot of money! Good luck. I think you'll be able to do it.

Re: Green Bet
The bet was never officially made, but I have been trying to use my bike when running down to the store, or for other short trips. Last Saturday I rode my bike to go pick up a bottle of rum. I'm going to start commuting to work by bike this week, since I got my commuter bike built up over the weekend.

I have about a quarter tank left, but I filled up the last week in April. I've probably used about 1/2 tank so far . Not as good as I thought I woudl do, but I haven't been trying real hard either.
Here's a picture of the bike. It's a Surly Crosscheck, steel frame, rugged as hell. I have it built up with some mid grade Shimano parts that I had around. It even has fenders on it. Soon it will have a rack too, for picking up groceries and such.
This weekend is my nieces 1st birthday in Chaska, and I'll probably ride the bike out there for that. Otherwise it's like $6-$7 in gas for about a 35 mile round trip.

Re: Green Bet
Here is a link to cheap gas in your zip code.
Just enter your zip code in the site below, and it tells you which gas stations have the cheapest prices (and the highest) on gas in your zip code area. It's updated every evening.

Re: Green Bet
I have gone 3 1/2 weeks on one tank of gas before (01 Cavy) but I live a mile from school, 4 miles from work, and <5 from anything else. I think its a pretty cool bet. That bike sounds sweet too, I just use my $75 walmart Mongoose bike .
