Audits: Millions of dollars in Katrina aid wasted
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11326973/from/RSS/
This is pretty sad to hear how much was wasted, when they could have used the funds in better ways to actually make a difference.

Re: Audits: Millions of dollars in Katrina aid wasted
I was watching CNN Anderson Coopers 360 last night and FEMA spent 300 million on trailors homes for victoms, but due to the structure they aren't suttable for the soft marshy land of the gulf area in need the most. ANd now that they are sitting on an air strip in GA, they are begging to sink in the soft fields there as the frames are getting damaged. They are spending 3-8 million more to send tons and tons of gravel to lay down and 40,000 + jacks to jack up the corners on all the homes to raise them up. All this instead of moving them south where they are needed, and there is a 90% chance that all these home will just end up as trash and not up to FEMA standards when the time would actually come to ptu them to use due to the damage they have taken by sitting there.
It makes me fucking sick how much money was watsed and it's like it only gets worse for those involved. I have no problem paying taxes, but when shit liek this happens it really makes you go, WTF.

This just goes to show that it is time to slim down the government and cut out the fat! All this red-tape is totally bogus.

Re: Audits: Millions of dollars in Katrina aid wasted
You didn't really expect anything different did you?
It's the same old song & dance. We (the gooberment) spend ourselves into a deficit because we dont' have enough tax dollars, then preach how we need more taxes to cover our debt, and then blow large sums of $$$ like this because we don't have any.
If they could afford to blow large sums of money like that, ever wonder why we can't feed or house the homeless or provide medical coverage for real Americans instead of illegal immigrants or cover public education? Big Bother has to keep you down somehow.
Ever wonder where the money goes? There's your answer and it's only the tip of the iceberg. This is also a fine example of how political "kickbacks" can happen. I (typical politition) can't give you pay-back for supporting my campaign fund directly, but I could throw you a couple of very lucrative gooberment contracts where you could make lot's of money for doing very little. Maybe somebody needed to return a political favor.
Remember this, the gooberment is mostly made up of wealthy people who are looking for ways to get more $$$ or idiots who couldn't make it in the real world doing a real job.

No offense, but I find it hard to take anyone seriously who uses words like "gooberment". Other than that, you have a valid perspective.
As far as the original post goes, it's too bad that things like this have happened. I just wonder what I can do, as Mr. Average American, to help influence change.

Who really cares what I call them? Assholes, dip-shits, liars, cheats, etc. better for you? Bottom line is this; the things we read and hear about in the news only make up a small percentage of how mis-managed our money is or how crooked polititions are. Remember the "Check Writing Scandal". OMG, there's no way our publically elected government would be guilty of that right? But it happened. How about when our own people are subjected unknowingly to medical and chemical experiments. You wouldn't think our own government would purposely let African-American men suffer with Syphilis until death occurred while knowing there was a cure? Would you? But it happened.
Do you really think that all those trailers got ordered and paid for without somebody checking the spec requirements for their use? Somebody issued the checks, somebody signed the required paperwork to buy them.

Yup, the government is out to kill us all. Seriously, get a clue though. Yeah, bad stuff happens, but if it wasn't for our government we'd all be smoked by now. Oh wait, maybe terrorists are just a figment of our imagination in Bush's evil scheme.

I think the government misuses money sometimes, but I think the majority of them are doing good. You'll always have a few bad apples, and that's what makes the news. Someone missusing money makes the good news story, not a story about the guy who is doing his job just fine.
