Project!
I'm buying a project tomorrow. It was supposed to be a secret but since I know I'm going to have a ton of questions, and since I already opened my fat mouth and spilt the news to those of you who were at Applebee's the other night, I figured I'd just let you guys know.
Anyways, it's a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST. Yes, back to FWD. I don't mind really. I would like AWD but right now I'm not so concerned. I'm picking it up for $400 from a guy in Wisconsin tomorrow (if we can find someone with a truck, since my dad is being difficult). It doesn't run and it's a really pretty blue/rust color (please note the sarcasm when I say that). I'm kidding, there isn't to much rust. With it, I am getting enough parts to build to extra good motors. Expect to see a few parts going up for sale here and there, haha. Anyways, the car should be up and running by April, but only good enough to drive it back from St. Anthony (My shell is going to sit out there but the engine and all of the parts are coming home with me). I'd say it's going to be a good adventure. I'll learn a lot, but I know it's going to take an ASS load of patience. I'm really excited though; it should be fun!

Re: Project!
Now you have something to go with the tattoo
I'm in project mode myself, building a block and tranny before I even pick up a shell, but I'm excited to get back in it and Jana doesn't seem to be pulling her hair out yet since I'm not jumping into buying a bunch of shit right away even though I could have already paid for a shep tranny and built 6 bolt in cash over the last 2 week

Re: Project!
No doubt. I'll get pics as soon as I get it back to MN. The guy to the side skirts off, so it's pretty rough right now, but I'm probably going to get those back on as soon as I can.
Jakey: April! It will be running but as soon as I get it back to my house it's going to come right back apart. Basically I'm getting it running to get it back to Eagan, then I'll start modding it when it gets to Eagan. I won't be able to drive it full time for awhile because we are getting raped by the insurance company right now, so that will have to wait. Maybe if something is going on the day it starts running like Applebee's or KK I'll bring it out.

Re: Project!
Allan, thats pretty bad ass. I'm hoping by next year I'll have enough money to take my car out, blow the tranny out, just so I can tell my dad I have to go pick up a Shep tranny, haha. But that's bad ass, can't wait to see a finished product!
Curt, Oh yah. It's going to be one hell of a learning process. I wish there was going to be more time to put the engine back together, but until April I'm going to be living out of my garage! I think I'm ready though.

Re: Project!
You need to get yourself into a position where you can have GSX tattooed under the tri-diamond.

Re: Project!
Well Son of a bitch, Tauni might be faster than me afterall.
This won't do....won't do at all. Poor quest might have to get more mods than planned this year :-D
For real tho, congrats! It'll be fun to see another DSM whom I know around my area. Good luck with it!

Re: Project!
It's going to be a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll get really frustrated, but hey, it's part of the game. Wouldn't be a DSM if I wasn't getting pissed at it every now and then.
A GSX would be bad ass. I'd really like to have both though. Even if I did get a GSX though, I don't see me tattooing "GSX" on me. Haha.
Tom: Holy shit. Haha. Well I guess when my car is done we will just have to race You'll be alright.

Re: Project!
Congratulations on making the first step toward the end of your automotive interest.
The only thing I can say about taking on a project like this is don't get frustrated and don't give up. Ask anyone here who knows me about what I've been through.

Re: Project!
I don't think I could ever give up. I've set goals for myself as far as this car goes and I won't be giving up until I have achieved them. Prepare for a million questions from me. And I don't think this will make me give up on cars all together. I'm pumped! And since it's a DSM, I am preparing myself for the worst haha! It should be fun though.

Thats not true! My FWD is faster then the majority of AWD's on the site. Dont let the AWD guys fool you, FWD drive can be fun. And its really fun from 65 to 100 MPH.

Re: Project!
Yah, but mine won't be that fast for awhile. So until then, I'll stick to frum rolls. But thanks for the advice, you're stirring up so many goals!!

Re: Project!
I had a ton of fun with my FWD for 3 years. If you set them up properly, they'll out handle an AWD and outrun them with similar mods.

Re: Project!
Mod for mod up to a certain point, FWD's will always be faster than AWD's. That 300-400 pounds makes a big difference up to the point where you don't get any traction under 100 mph with a FWD. Then it's no fun.
