Make slowboy not so slow
I found a pretty good deal on an almost-complete 6 bolt stroker motor here in Des Moines where my car took a crap on me. Basically it just needs cams and gears and it's ready to be put into my car. As a bonus, the guy is willing to help me for a weekend to do the swap. The motor has all the bells and whistles, I can't remember exactly right now what was put on it, but it totaled around $6000 for everything new, it has about 800 miles on it, and safely revved to 8500. My friend only made two passes on it before the car got destroyed (severe vandalism) and he parted it out. I believe he got 8 seconds in the 8th at 14psi with a FP3065 turbo.
For those of you who might know him, it's Mike Clark's motor from his green 1g, I believe he had a Haltech EMS on it. This is the guy who helped me do all my car stuff when I lived in Iowa a couple years back.
Oh, I forgot to mention, it comes with a flywheel and clutch already on it and balanced.
I should be picking it up this weekend and maybe doing the install over the next week or so. I'll post a complete parts list and pictures when I get them, I'm pretty excited for this.
Comments and suggestions welcome.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
280 cams/adjustable cam gears
Dsmlink
255 fuel pump
A smoother shifting tranny and you are setup for a very quick ride.
I would say clean up the motor and engine bay while you are in there, make it perty.

Very cool, now you can use that new turbo to it's full potential!

All of a sudden the turbo is a little small for the motor....
Also, since I'm a noob, what would adjustable cam gears get me over regular ones from Mitsu? I can get Mitsu ones for free, the guy has some laying around he's throwing in with the motor.

Just use the stockers, and don't sweat the 20G's size on that stroker, it'll just spool like a 16G! That rocks!

Use stock cam gears since you get them for free.

Yea that would be fine. The 20G will make it spool nice and fast!

Yeah, that will spool yesterday.
Mike Clark, there's a name I haven't heard for awhile. Came on the local board years ago saying everyone was an idiot and his car would theoretically run 9's or something. He got booted from NABR for that stuff.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Ok, I got most of the receipts from when the motor was built, here is a basic parts list:
Brand new 4g64 crank from Mitsu ($$)
Eagle rods
Magnus designed Ross pistons, 9:1 compression
All new gaskets/bearings from Mitsu
Forward facing oil filter housing
ARP headstuds
Align hone
ACT2900 clutch
Fidanza flywheel
1G head, ported, 1mm oversize valves, with a radius valve job, all work done by Arnolds Motor Supply in Ames, IA
Crower springs and titanium retainers
Stock cams!!!!! woohoo
Also got a 1g intake mani and 1g throttle body for it.
Everything has around 800 miles on it, I'll edit this post later when I'm home and I have the receipts with me.
Right now I have all hoses/sensors unplugged from the engine, all fluids out, just need to get the axles completely out of the transmission tonight and pull the motor out tonight. I plan to have the 2g starter plate on the new motor with the transmission attached by the end of tonight. I'll try to get pics.
Plus, the guy who sold me this just had his 2g motor go out, so he wants my stock shortblock once it's out.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Yeah, the 2900 gets a bit rough. It doesn't feel all that much worse than a 2600 though, but they are bad enough.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
that sounds like an awesome engine, and I thought the 2900 had a different angle of release or something to lower pedal pressure, but correct me if I'm wrong

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
You will definately want a bigger turbo. My 2.4L had my old GT3076 spooling hard all the time and saw full boost around 3200-3300 rpm.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Yuck, I hate how hard it seems to not spool my 16g, I cant even imagine with a bigger turbo. I bet its cool as hell when it actually is go time though! Nice buy man.
