Look good for how a nice ebay find! Are you going to get it PC'd to match?

That's the thing, the issue I'm seeing now is that air from the snorkel itself is affecting my AFRs on the street. The faster the car is going, the more turbulence is hitting the MAF, and unfortunately its causing my AFRs to go lean
The way I figure, this shield will block that direct blast of air but still let the snorkel's fresh air still fill all the area around the filter.

Re: beaterX project thread
Well, initial test is a success! AFRs are right where I want them...no shield over the snorkel I was in the high 12's. This is crazy.

I think there's a link up a few posts, but I happen to have the tab open still. They make a few different sizes, this is the one I got (Spectre 8130 Air Filter Heat Shield):

Yea, I just want to make sure the way I have it mounted is a good long-term solution. Both UICP and shield will be visiting PowderKeg here shortly! I almost want to re-do my intake too so it all matches nicely, but that may not be possible due to timeline.

Awesome proof that the stock snorkel is actually effective!

Re: beaterX project thread
Yea, I think if the sensor was back further in the pipe this would be less of a problem, but then it'd probably buck when the BOV went off, so who knows.
I'm happy for now, maybe I'll just take a sharpee to the pipes to get them black and call it a day?

I need to run a tank or two of pump gas through it first, car is down a bit on power. Torque is in good shape though

Nope
One thing I have learned, regardless of dyno, the car will always run different on the street. At least mine does.
He is running a few lbs more of boost on the street compared to where he was on Shane's dyno.
I don't care for numbers much anymore, more so comparison. So same cars same dyno, same car same dyno/street I was just curious how his car runs on the street at this level and tuned compared to before when he was hitting 640ish on VD.
Comparisons I enjoy, not so much bigger/smaller numbers is all I am saying.

Re: beaterX project thread
His fueling issues are speed-based, not RPM based.

ah, thanks for clearing that up for me. That's weird.

Re: beaterX project thread
Depends how large of a pipe you have it in. Once you max out the MAF (5.0v) in the stock 2.75" MAF-housing you can step up to a 3 or 3.5". The downside of doing that is less resolution meaning idle and low-speed drivability can suffer. My car is pretty much at the limit for the stock housing, I max it out during long 5th gear pulls into the higher RPM's.

Re: beaterX project thread
Hotwire MAFs, like the Evo X has are very prone to being messed up by air blowing at them from things like radiator fans or the intake snorkle in Chris's case.

Re: beaterX project thread
Yea..again, the the issue is that on the street, the car goes leaner than on the dyno. On the dyno the car is tuned to mid-11's and on the street AFRs jumped to high 12's/low 13's. Adding this shield seems to have fixed this, I'm super happy!

Re: beaterX project thread
Picked up my emergency CMC backup kit from MAP today!
OEM CMC, AMS reinforcement ring, and brake fluid. This will go on the shelf to be swapped in whenever the time comes

Re: beaterX project thread
This should be a lot quicker than what you went through though...if I'm reading the manual right, I don't have to remove the brake cylinder or anything, the stocker just twists into place. I hope it's just that easy (albeit a massively cramped place).

I wouldn't believe that at all. Look at your car today, lol. They do twist in but I have no idea how you would get your hand back there at all. Seems almost impossible, but part of the issue I had was the hard line and banjo bolt so close to the brake booster.
Who knows, maybe it can be done, I'll believe it when I see it haha.
