Re: Evo X upgrades
Saturday I'll test the fueling situation and change the oil. I have low expectations.
Sunday I'll swap on the snow tires. Not having a TPMS light will be a treat.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I made a couple quick pulls today and the fuel pressure behavior didn't look too bad.
I've decided to make an appointment with Ron @RS for an hour of dyno time. We'll test it out and I'll get the opinion of another guru if it doesn't look right. I'm going to see if I can get away from work on Friday afternoon for that.

Is the hand healed? I imagine there'd be no "personal time" for at least a week with that type of injury, lol.

haha! Yesterday was the first full day without bandages. It looks bad but it didn't prevent me from typing (work) so nbd.
I've been single for 4-5 years now so I'm pretty resourceful.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Haz fuel? Ron did a half-dozen pulls on his dyno this afternoon and the new pump looked good to him. He added some fuel up-top and the AFRs responded as they should.
He is suggesting that my motor is burning oil because my catch can arrangement doesn't breath well enough (the motor is tight or needs more airflow). I'm going to try changing that up as he suggested.
I'll go back in a couple weeks and we'll try to turn up the wick. 437/366 on his dyno as it sits.

Re: Evo X upgrades
So we had chatted about power source and/or grounding issues(quick/easy/cheap option). Or the pump as the next to check. If this fixed it.. Congrats!

Yeah, I experimented for a week with ground locations and I ran a wire from the engine bay and it didn't seem to help. As soon as I dropped this Jay Racing 044 in, fuel pressure looked well behaved--I was able to hit 68psi on a couple pulls on the trip to Rock Falls last weekend.
I guess the real test will be when we try to add power.
Thanks for your help!

Time for more boost and see if you can put all this fuel system bs behind you! Good luck!

This Jay's 044 has behaved better from the start. The original 044 wouldn't reach full psi half of the time, it'd go to 62 instead of 68+ psi.

Yeah, it spiked to 25.4. I normally wouldn't be happy with how that boost curve looks but the car hasn't really been tuned. Spool is sad but mivec hasn't been touched for the cams.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I'm such a wimp these days...I'm winded from lugging my tires back and forth to the garage. Finally got the winters on. Need to go buy a 21mm socket so I can torque the wheels.
I ordered a new driver's axle for the Plymouth. The boot has been torn for a year (according to Dad) and I'd rather not get stranded because of something I know about. $50. Just need to learn how to install it.

Having the first stage 5 head from MAP could be fun!

Slight necro here--you got me thinking. Do you have all the info on the head? Did it end up being a full stage5? What size/brand valves did you go with?

I ended up getting a 3/8 drive to 1/2 adapter to solve that issue. Sometimes it's nice having Sears just a few blocks away.
I'm not sure how much I'll drive the Evo this Winter. I want to try to get everything fixed on it. I figure I'll take it out on nice days or if the beater breaks down.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Got a brand new jack from Northern Tool today. That's the first time an extended warranty paid off for me.
I dropped Grimmspeed a line about their air/oil separator setup for Subarus. I'm going to see if I can test one on my Evo. It seems more elegant than catch cans.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Awesome, sears is 15mins from me.
Check out JCSautomation.com he sells catch cans and can make them custom sizes or join 2 cans into one block, they work amazing.

Mike, Take this for what it is worth, avoid that grimspeed setup like the plague, ask "Solid" over on mnautox.com how he feels about this separator setup.(It did not end good for his engine.) If I were you Id be all over a kracka's vent setup with some catch cans..

To be fair he had it plumbed all wrong, there was no way for the crankcase pressure to be relieved, regardless if he was at fault or if that's how Grimmspeed told him to install it. The guy that designed it had one on his Evo 8/9 and showed it to Scheides and myself at the spring dyno day, I'm fairly confident that he had one hose off it plumbed into a catch can with a breather. It is an excellent idea for easily adding a catch can setup when applied correctly.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Shane and Mara have one of those Grimmspeed oil-air seperator/oil caps on thier Evo. Just see how he has his plumbed, they look great in concept.
