Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It's official, Manley pistons are way behind!
Shane said that my pistons from Manley are 3+ weeks out! Screw that I say...going with the more expensive AMS spec JE pistons rated over 800whp and AMS has taken them over 1000 before as well, should be more than enough if I ever go 35r.
Shane had said either those or the CP ones would be safe, the CP's weren't coated so AMS it is, plus they are in stock and ready to ship and should be at DB on Friday or Monday at the latest.

Nice!
Waiting on backorder parts FTL. I am waiting for an intake that FP says should be a week out, we'll see how that goes

Yea, I was looking forward to be a little different...they seemed to work out great on other Evo builds DB did.
But 3+ weeks, summer could be over by then...I'd happily pay an extra 100-200 for pistons to get something sooner. Shane even said he just wanted to get going on the motor, haha. Not sure if he is wants to see numbers and get it going or just wants it done so i stop bugging them. I try to avoid it but its hard when I have so much shit floating around in my head on what I would like to do. PLus I try to coordinate everything to avoid hang ups, but it is what it is kinda.

Oh I am still waiting on FP for my turbo, a very important part, lol.
But the pistons are officially holding everything up right now. They could be putting new rods/pistons in and filing rings checking clearances and installing back in the car if it weren't for the pistons.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Well here is to friday, at least with your car you are being held up by parts, not like GH here who could have the intake and still have a car in pieces lol.
SO next weekend it could be alive?

I do it to myself, lol...reading forums every day seeing other people enjoying their car's...it's foolish.
I did pretty good for the first 2 months. I have tried to keep it to one issue a week, like just an update on parts etc...change in parts, w/e.
The motor could be in by next weekend, probably not running..no turbo. The head could be done by Friday, I think it was supposed to be.
However, just because parts are there, doesn't mean DB would drop everything to do my car...nor would I expect them to. So we will see how next week goes.

What kind of oil do you guys run? Stick with M1 5W-30 or switch to 10W-30?

Shane recommends 10w30 conventional for break-in. I'm switching to Amsoil 0W30 on the next change.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
10w40 on any built motor or any motor making decent power. I would only run 5w30, if recommended by the manufacturer, on a 100% stock car that wasn't modded. Running too thin of oil is one of the biggest motor killers. We run 10w40 mixed with 20w50 on high HP motors. M1 5w30 is the cause of more spun rod bearings than I can count, seen it on 4Gs, 2Jzs, Subarus, Hondas, Mustang motors, SR20s, etc...

I just checked my receipt and I have been using 10w40 conventional. Didn't know that was the same deal with synthetic, though.

I've sent out some emails...I'll work on getting the case that I bought swapped. Thank God Kracka asked the question because I can't afford that kind of ignorance.
