Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4

This is kind of interesting reading how people interpute the term "DSM". Obviously the term came from Diamond Star Motors, but I don't think of a DSM as coming from the plant in Illionios during the 90-94 time period.

In my mind, and many others, including Buschur and the original Talon digest, a DSM is a 90-99 Eclipse/Talon/Laser and the 91-92 Galant VR4s. Why these cars? Because they share so many mechanical parts. Outside of the 95-99 Eclipse/Talon non-turbos, they all used the 4g63 powerplant. A Galant VR4 shares at least 90% of its mechanical parts as its 1g Eclipse AWD brothers.

3/Ss, Avengers, Starions... I've heard these cars lumped into the term DSM, but they share way less than 50% of the mechanical parts and should never be considered DSMs.

As far as what category the Galant VR4 is in concerning the Cookout. Its gonna remain in the 1g DSM category, unless the GVR4 owner requests to be in the "other" category. I'm pretty sure the goof ball that e-mailed me was never planning on coming to the Cookout anyway, so don't worry about that head case.

later,
Curt

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4

Hey, I think I should get my own category. I dont think I should be in the same category as the red/blue/teal/maroon/and so on 1G DSMs. My car is Forest Green, so I think I should get my own 1G Forest Green DSM category. Splitting up DSMs even more will make things easier for the rest of us, dont you all agree?

NOT! Hahaha...I like making fun of guys who are like that, dont you guys? But seriously, I want that 1G Forest Green DSM category....(j/k)

Gvr4s are the pre DSM but share enough of the stuff to be called a "DSM" for a simple all mitsu cookout...

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4

Well if the car came with a "DSM" Tag in the engine bay then it's a DSM.

However I tend to include any car that "Stock" came with majority DSM parts are included. Hense why VR4's are part of the family.

My 2G I believe now has the motor out of a White VR4...

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4

I'd simply email the kid back stating he and his friends are not welcome for the event, and will be escorted off the property upon arrival.
