Eric was telling the truth, I am not a gun fanatic by any means (I don't own one), but I can smell a BS law when I see it. I personally don't care whether they have the law or not since it really won't make a bit of difference in anyones life; althought I suppose I would much rather have our lawmakers worrying about something that might actually benefit this country rather than a law designed solely to shut the mad-mothers up.

that's true, why don't our lawmakers work on smart laws? i'm not going to buy a gun, cause i don't care about guns. unless i am in the wrong part of town but yeah, they should focus on laws that will benefit americans in tangeable ways.

THIS is what sounds stupid to me:
why would someone carry a fully auto weapon as protection? that sounds highly rediculous. you have to admit.
also, i think that any of you who would buy one of these previously banned guns probably don't live in an area where you honestly need them. so, why exactly do you want one? is there something you can achieve (as in shooting targets) with an auto that you couldn't with a regular or semi auto gun?
|
This is the ignorance that we have to put up with in regard to the assault weapon ban.
Your average citizen still cannot buy a full auto. And as far as "anyone who would buy a previously banned gun yadda yadda." - I personally own two guns that would have been illegal IF they were manufactured during the ban. They were made well before the ban, making them legal to own. I wish all these people putting all that effort into the AWB would put as much effort into RESEARCH about the ban.

Yep, Chris beat me to it. The assault weapons ban had absolutely nothing to do with automatic weapons. We haven't been able to own an automatic weapon in the state for decades (it is possible to get a special permit, but it is extremely hard).
Like I stated before, the law really tried to ban guns that "looked" like military guns. It also outlawed high capacity magazines for basically all guns. How many people go on shooting sprees with a .22 rifle? I couldn't get a high capacity magazine for my ruger 10/22 (for a decent price anyway). It also limited the number of rounds you could hold in a pistol. If you go to the shooting range you don't want to spend all of your time reloading, you want to be able to shoot.

A gun is only as good or as bad as the person holding it.Lots of things can become lethal weapons in the hands of a person intending to use them that way, do you want to ban those too? You fucking people don't realize, criminals will ALWAYS have guns, why can't law abiding citizens?

Regardless of whether you think guns are good or bad, we are FREE to have them. And THAT along with freedom of speech is what makes this such a great country.

As a democrat I have to say that we should indeed stop fighting the issue of gun control. It is impossible to win and I know that. Also I think it hurts our chances in elections because there are a lot of people that vote only on one issue, which in many cases in a candidates stance on gun control. Yes you are free to have guns and just ike you said I am free to protest the issue.

Ahhh, ignorance is bliss.
So, lets ban all guns because they are bad, mmmmm-kay! (Ask England what has happened to the crime rate)
Now, the only people with guns are the criminals. Not good. Lets say we live in a fairy tale world and all guns are gone. Crap, now people are committing robberies with knives!
Well, we can't have that! Ok, no more knives. Steaks become a real challenge to eat, so they are basically outlawed too. Now the big guys start beating up all the little democrats. We can't have that! So we ship all the big guys off and let the democrats have California.
Hmmmm....the outcome doesn't sound so bad after all! :bounce:

Personally I would stand a much better chance in a fight with someone that had a knife over someone with a gun.
I don't know maybe your bullet proof.

This is the problem with misinformation.
1) No one is carrying full auto weapons as they are illegal and the legal full autos are extremely expensive and you need to apply for a full auto tax stamp which has a $200.00 application fee, can take 7-12 months to get approved (which 99.9% of people will not), and are very hard to come by.
2) Assault Rifles were NEVER banned, I repeat NEVER banned. You could have walked into any gun store and purchase a BRAND NEW AR-15 or AK-47 anytime before this ban expired as long as they have a certain amount of american made parts. The ban was for certain parts as someone already pointed out.
The ban made it so you could only have two options on your rifle out of
pistol grip
high cap mag
folding stock
bayonet lug
threaded barrel/flash supressor
You could have a protruding pistol grip and a threaded barrel, or a flash supressor and a high capacity magazine, pistol grip and a side folding stock, yadda yadda yadda
Or as most of them came, a pistol grip and a high cap mag
I am greatfull for everyones input on this topic but if you want more info or to actually know what the gun laws you are protesting about require, visit

For these people, buying something big makes up for something small

When provoked, "law abiding citizens" might have the urge to use the gun in another way other than self defense. Some people have very short fuses and that doesn't mean they cant carry a weapon around legally. Say they just got in a really big arguement, that person might use it. People regret things they do and not every move can be taken back. More guns on the street or in circulation, means more guns in the wrong hands. Many people that got the stupid permit to carry don't even need it. It just makes them feel more like a man.
