Re: the surly bill has been signed
Instead of them being open on Sundays, you could be a real man and stock up on booze so you never have to go without.

I think it should actually be up to the store owners then, not politicians. If they want to be open Sunday, let them, if they don't want to be open on Sundays, let them do that also! but let it be their choice. That is all I would like to see happen.

Not for all of us.
I'm not saying liquor stores not being open on Sundays is some colossal inconvenience, but it would be nice to go get some booze when something comes up short notice the day after you drank your reserves.
For now I'll just go to the bar to get my Sunday drink on.

Only thing I can see, is that if some small stores arent open sundays, that will really hurt business if others down the street are. Might take away regulars and send them to the other stores all the time.

Capitalism? yeah.
Take the government out of telling a business when they can and cannot be open. Hell im sure a lot of small liquor shops would benefit greatly be staying open on sundays and taking like a monday or tuesday off. think about the events that go on, on sundays.

Re: the surly bill has been signed
Lots of potential tax revenue dollars are going across the MN boarder to WI since liquor stores have to close by 10pm and aren't allowed to operate on Sundays. Obviously the stores not on boarder cities could careless, but the stores in Duluth, for example, sure do.

I guess I just think there are much better things to address in this state than beer on Sunday.

there are only 14 states that ban beer on sundays. It serves no purpose what so ever.

Either that or I take a couple T-bones over to Dad's place in WI and have him grill. The argument is retarded...making it not illegal to be open on a Sunday does not require every liquor store in the state to be open that day.
They can take any day off that they want--it's their business. What they're really saying is that if some other store was open on Sunday then they wouldn't dare risk their customers getting in the habit of going somewhere else. That logic in the back of their minds undermines their entire argument...there is a demand for it.

Tax revenue/state budgets are a huge concern right now, here's a way to increase tax revenue without actually increasing taxes.

Re: the surly bill has been signed
Just because it would be legal doesn't mean they HAVE to be open. If a family ran business needs Sunday off, go ahead. But I feel the government shouldn't tell stores that they can not sell a legal product since it's a certain day, and assume the people wont want a beer because it's sunday.

Funny thing is that's what the bill has written into it... You don't HAVE to be open on Sunday but if you'd like go for it...
And this whole non-sense about losing customers... c'mon. If i have to drive 5 miles to get beer because my usual store isn't open on Sundays, its not like i'm gonna skip them on every other day of the week especially when they're only 6 blocks away.
Everyone is always complaining about the government telling people what to do and small business owners do it more than a lot of people i know, but they're totally ok with good ole' guberment doing it on this one... hypocritical.

Re: the surly bill has been signed
P.S. - TO: House and Senate of Minnesota
Would you like to save some money along with all the new found taxes from selling liquor on Sundays? Please pass a bill now that gets rid of front license plates. Cops telling me its a safety issue is getting real old and everyone knows its a cooked up bullshit lie anyway...
Thanks,
Minnesota Evo owners.
P.P.S - Good job on the "Surly Bill"
