Re: Bigger and better
Ok, between work & weddings this weekend, I *finally* was able to get everything totally buttoned up & take my GSX for a real drive. This turbo lacks the midrange punch that my 20g had @ about 4000rpms @ 22psi, but as of now I'm only running about 18psi & richened up the tune I had on the car before by about 6% from 4400rpms - redline.
This turbo rocks! Onset is smooth as silk, and once it gets going, it just keeps pounding through the gears. Transient response is awesome thanks to the ball-bearing center section. I'll get it on the rollers sometime soon & see how she stacks up against my old 20g!

Re: Bigger and better
What boost are you running at? Is there any creep that you're noticing?

Re: Bigger and better
Running at about 18psi. No creep past there! This thing has a cut turbine housing, big flapper, and I have a wide-open o2 housing, so I'm pretty pleased. This will make a nice street setup

Re: Bigger and better
Ya, I run that same O2 housing as well. I also have a PTE turbo, but with the uncut housing. What flapper is in there? I'm just wondering if when I upgrade from my 50trim to something larger, if I'm going to have to go external. But if you're not creeping with a GT35r, well then maybe I'm safe. I'll be looking to go more with the scm61. Get some numbers outta that setup so we can see how well it performs!!

Re: Bigger and better
The thing with an internal setup is that it won't hold boost as well as an externally gated will, especially at high-boost.

Re: Bigger and better
The problems you might run into with an internally gated setup are:
Having trouble running low boost(creep)
Maintaining very high boost levels(boost drop in the upper rpms), high backpressure can hold the flapper open, the bigger/more surface area of the flapper, the more likely it is to have trouble at high boost. Externals can have this problem too, but there are often many higher pressure springs to choose from with an external and you can push boost to the top port of an external to help hold the valve shut.
Unstable boost(boost level wavering up and down a couple psi), I mostly see this on the ball-bearing GT28 sized turbos
Slightly more lag than an external(externals don't usually start to open until immediately before full boost, internal flappers are often partially open much earlier)

Re: Bigger and better
I'm planning on running a PTE 5031RE DBB w/cut wastegate divider.
I also recently purchased the Lipp O2 Housing for my un-cut 18g.
I have a huge 3" dp, and it practically eats my stock ported 2g O2 housing.
I bought a used Evo III O2, but I don't like how the ports don't match up, and my DP is tweaked a bit and really close to the oil pan.
So, I took it off and it's for sale.
How is that GT35R running with your cut housing and wide open O2?
A lot of people are baggin on the PTE Boost Creep Band Aid by cutting the divider.
Have you noticed any issues with the cut divider, or is it all good.
People are saying yeah, the cut housing works, but with the expense of Turbine Efficeincy.
Can any of you guys comment on your experiences with the cut divider.
Thanks for the space.

We have had nothing but success with the cut pte housings and the LIPP housings. I have never done a back to back comparision, but for someone that has to deal with the limitations of a internally gated turbo, the cut housing+LIPP 02 housing works very very well.

Re: Bigger and better
The main problem with the setup is that it's still internally gated. It would not creep at all, but would have a 3psi spike at boost onset. I could set it as low as about 17psi w/o any creap what so ever. In the end I ran it spiking to 23psi and falling to 20 and it worked quite well.
I have since sold this setup, btw.

Re: Bigger and better
That's awesome.
I almost cancelled my order this morning based on what I read else where, but if you say you've had nothing but success, then that's good enough.
I can't wait to get that DBB 50 trim from PTE.
Thanks for the great info...
