Re: Living in South Carolina? Let me hear it!

Its definitely harder to move once you have kids.

As a side note I know you worked or work for MAP.

But what do you do for a living?

I ask because. Although I don't care for the area. .my plant is about to finish up our mew 80million dollar textile line and will be hiring soon.

I also happen to know the head of the quality department for the company that makes most if not all the lawn furniture cushions for Lowes. Which is locates I'm greenville, sc

I also happen to know a guy who owns a car shipping company out of Raleigh, NC.

If you don't mind traveling. (Could even travel with the wife)

As a side note. The shipping deal must must pay well the owner who started it 2yrs ago. Was looking to buy a 2006 lambo last month.

Well so brings up a good point, where if I wind up deciding to move back, I can just rent out my house now. That said, I will have to have a chat with the folks in due time.

Damn! That's what my friend said from the area, that most the work is manufacturing, though I have a background in engineering and sales/business. CNC actually has my interest but I know it's going to take some time off work to finish the core classes for it, the rest I have down already on paper. Personally I love traveling but would have to see how that works with the home life. I do currently work for MAP as the head of their wholesale division, so I'm well rooted and have a solid position, while enjoying what I do everyday, but I'm not picky when it comes to the right paycheck and smiles per hour. MAP isn't exactly keen on remote workers any more but maybe in time, so frankly though I'm saving money on living costs (everything there is much better value from what I can tell), it might have to be a decent jump to take my heart away from this workplace haha.

Re: Living in South Carolina? Let me hear it!

Before picking an area regardless of what state etc. Check out school ratings if you plan to have kids. Sc is not good by any means but there are a few pockets I the state that have decent ratings.

CNC - well we do have a Boeing plant near Charleston and the Bmw plant in spartanburg, I also thought I remeber hearing Mercedes has a plant they are expanding here.

And we also just got an amazon distribution center near Columbia.

And i would say we have a target distribution center in my town. But from what I heard its a bad place to work. But it is less then 10 miles from my house

Roadtrips + airplanes make that a non-issue, at least in my experience.

Re: Living in South Carolina? Let me hear it!

Other then hurricanes i loved living in Florida. But I was like 11miles from moroso and they had racing 4 times a week at night

And I love scuba diving and I was like 5 miles from the ocean and used to go every lunch break and either snorkel or scuba dive. But I also was my own boss and always set up my schedule so I had a few hours each day to do so.

There was tuner shops every where it seemed. And was always full of exotics.

Jet was the only person to visit me while I was living in west palm beach. As he was passing through when he picked up a white 1g.

Nash lived here in camden sc with me for a year. So he can also attest to how boring my county is as well as how limited jobs are here in Kershaw county.
Other then being like 3 hours or less from everything. My county sucks.

Re: Living in South Carolina? Let me hear it!

^^ Good info right there.

Personally I am on a 5 year plan to get the hell out of Minnesota and move somewhere with less winter or no winter. While I can tolerate the snow, I prefer ALL summer activities to winter ones now.

Well south definitely had lots of year round sun. In still driving the eclipse daily to work. Was 70 a few days ago. Although its been dipping into the 30's last couple days.

CMP is still open for racing ever weekend.

I've lived all over the place. Everywhere has it's pros/cons. Everyone is different, and for me personally I really liked back home in MN. I almost stayed in AZ though, was very close to staying there. Might be where we retire assuming I don't kill myself before then.

Re: Living in South Carolina? Let me hear it!

I liked Minnesota enough to move back also. But that was because of friends.

I have zero friends here which is probably why I don't care for it. But I choose to not have friends because I just don't have time for anything anymore with a family of 6.

And a 2nd shift job

Not even on the list actually. I go there for work as I have oil and gas customers.

Probably thinking Carolina's, Kansas, etc. Need to start road tripping and figuring it out. First I'l buy a house here in Minnesota next year hopefully then 5 years out plan on selling it and moving somewhere warmer.

Re: Living in South Carolina? Let me hear it!

South Carolina does have its perks. Its just school suck, people are lazy as hell, and not a lot of jobs in my area.

But it is pretty well centrally located. And since a bunch of you are thinking of moving south hell, lets just bring the whole Minnesota group south loll.

In 16 miles from CMP.
8th mile track is like 8 miles away
Darlington (and its 1/4 mile drag strip are about an hour (50miles or so)
Charlotte is 2hrs
Myrtle beach is 2.5
Charleston is 2.5
Edisto beach is 2.5hrs
Savannah is 3hrs.
Jacksonville Florida is 3.5
Deals gap/dragons tail - 5hrs I think
Virginia international raceway - 3hrs 20min.
Atlanta is 4hrs.
Raleigh NC is 3.5hrs.
Columbia, sc 45min
Orlando. Fl /jet- I could get there in under 6hrs

I honestly wouldn't bother buying a house if you plan on selling it in <5 years. By the time you're done with maintenance, repairs, taxes, interest, closing, etc. you likely would have been better off renting and investing the remainder elsewhere.

680 per year of property taxes? Holy crap that's like a monthly payment up here.

Edit: guess that explains the schools quality you mentioned.

Agree completely. Plus add in realtor fees, unless it's a booming market, probably lose money in only a few years.
