Re: Evo X upgrades
Spent some time looking at aero and body kits this afternoon. Ran across the Varis Evo X for 2009. Way too expensive, but I want it bad.

Why stop now?
Speaking of stopping, what have you done in the way of brake upgrades?

Maybe I'll do a body kit in a year or two if I get bored. I need to stop for the obvious reason--I'm out of money.
I have a Girodisc stage 3 kit w/Ferodo DS2500 pads in the works. Ron is going to see if the discount is good enough to be worth becoming a dealer and getting the parts through him (instead of just ordering it online myself).

Re: Evo X upgrades
Be wary of using Motul 600 fluid in a street car since it needs flushing every 6 months, if thats more frequent than you'd like look for a longer lasting performance fluid such as the ATE Blue. The DS2500's are great street pads, just be aware that they are very dusty so if that bothers you you may want to search for another option.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I actually just starting thinking about brakes yesterday but have had my eye on that kit for a little while.

Two piece rotors make me hot in the pants.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Is the two peice rotors mainly for heat reduction? I wouldnt think it would be for strength because a one peice would be much stronger.

Upgrading your brakes? I'm still on the damn single piston 1g brakes. I would be in heaven if I had some stock evo brakes.

They weigh a lot less; aluminum hat with a steel ring.

The more power you make the better you need to be able to reign it in.

I think he was hinting at taking the stock brakes off his hands for him

They say it is for heat, weight, and to prevent warping due to how the ring 'floats' against the aluminum hub. The RB website is a lot more educational than Girodisc.

Not planning to upgrade the calipers--this is just rotors, pads, and stainless lines. The "big brake" kits start at $3k. That'd make sense if you were actually a racer but this is just for playing at the tracks.

Not really even then. The stock calipers are fine for the vast majority of track cars.

I'd imagine so since you could step up to race-only pads.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I was just saying that thinking about upgrading the brakes on a car that has an amazing brake setup already is crazy compared to mine and other dsmers.

I'm planning to learn how to use them this year. On my first track day I just slowed down enough before the corners, rather than using the brakes much.

+1, a good set of pads, SS lines, and fresh fluid on these cars makes an amazing difference.
Since you're tracking your car, have you considered some sort of brake ducting kit? This usually lets you get the most longevity out of whatever setup you have, stock or aftermarket.
