A/C conversion..
I want to convert my a/c to r134a, from the r12. My a/c is still in working condition, and all installed, it just doesn't have that cold air. I am LEAVING the a/c in the car. 10hp is not important enough to me. So, where can I get the fittings for the a/c high and low pressure nozzles? Are they the same size, or is one bigger?

We still have some R12, R12 is better than R134A in the DSM system. but if you want to switch, you should take off the compressor and dump out the oil and refill with R134A oil replace the o-rings ,you can get the fittings from NAPA.

I had switched 2 of my DSM's to R134A, it definately didn't cool as good as R12. R134A doesn't cool as well as R12 and the DSM system doesn't have much extra capacity. When it was like 100* I would get 70* blowing out, so the inside of the car was still 85*+ with R134A. I said screw it and took it out.

its kinda sad how after the ac is removed there is all that empty space back behind the engine with really nothing to go there...

Buschur makes a kit that allows you to move your alternator back there so you can mount a T88 wherever you want

My car was converted from R12 to a newer freon called FREEZE 12. It's even newer then R134. All the kit included was fittings to go over the old ones. No o-rings or oil changes neccessary. It was actually done by my shop on base in Yuma. All in all it cost me around 60 bucks for them to install the fittings, drain out the R12, and pu in the Freeze 12. It cools awesome too. So just another option for you to look at!

I havent had it for 3 years... it died the year after I bought the damn car. haha. I plan on getting a recharge of R12 just because I know someone that can do it fairly cheap.
The audi we bought last fall, which had really nice cold AC decided it didnt want to have AC anymore and now it doesnt work. Damn cars.

Since Freeze-12 is 80% R-134a and 20% R-142b, the usual question would be "Why not just convert to R-134a?" but with the price of R-134a these days.....it is not much more money just to stay with good old R-12.
Also, Freeze-12 won't circulate mineral oil very well and that will affect the longevity of your new compressor.

Well, since napa send me a defective shrader valve, there was a leak. So, the system has been cycled 3 times..r134 converted. It's colder then shit now, but There is another issue, that I hear is rather common? The rpms are rather low.quite low. The car wants to stall out on me when the clutch is depressed, and once it did. I adjusted by the idle screw, but when the ac is off, then the idle is high, and it does that revving thing. What can I do to fix this..I know there's that motor thing..the idler control module?? Anyway, Will a new one fix this? I have it set back to the way it was, and I am not using a/c unless I am on the highway, but dang..it's hot out these days!!

Welcome to DSM's. Make sure your ISC motor is centered, you do that by grounding certain pins, check the VFAQ for specifics.

Man I guess I'm slow or something, but I don't really understand what you were saying in that first paragraph about the "usual question". I'm assuming you are just saying you are against using freeze 12. I really don't know anything about the stuff, or much about A/C in general, except for that my freeze 12 cools damn good, easily comparible to how well my R-12 worked, and is real cheap. So it works good for me! I'm just throwing out another option for him. I'm no AC expert. Freeze 12 seems to be working great for me. I have no idea if it's hurting my compressor. If the stuff is really bad freon, then sorry. But it sure is working good for me!

I personally ended up just blocking off the ISC and FIAV with one of QPR's block-off plates.

So I am totally not trying to take over this thread, and I would start a new one but it kinda relates... I still have my A/C in my 92 talon but it sucks like doesn't seem to blow at all (kinda the same way with the heat(i assume the fan is bad)) but just out of curiosity how hard IS it to remove A/C? and does it really take up 10 hp to run that little pump?
